:stop Action Item: Tell the FDA "NO FUCKING WAY!" To Unlabled Cloned Dinners

For the next 90 days, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be taking public comments on the recent announced requirement of no special labeling required for cloned foods. Now and not later is our time to ensure that our voices are heard on this issue. We absolutely, positively, MUST NOT LET THIS GO UNCHALLENGED. Its time, for once, to hold the FDAs feet to the fire on this one.

THIS IS JUST LIKE VOTING FOLKS, IF YOU DON'T SEND A COMMENT NOW, DON'T BITCH ABOUT THE RESULT LATER ON DOWN THE ROAD.

Even if you personally don't see anything wrong with eating cloned food, those of us that do have a problem with it have an inalienable RIGHT to be able to tell the difference between cloned and non-cloned food on the shelf. You may also change your mind about your position down the road, but if this issue doesn't getting taken care now, before it is out of control, NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLONED AND NORMAL FOOD.

Send your comments, then bump this thread.

Since there is NO DIFFERENCE between cloned and normal food, there should be no label separating the two. This shit is so fucking stupid it's almost unbelievable. We are living in the 21st century and we STILL have such moronic fucks using scare tactics about the silliest things.

Fine. So eat all you want. I don't want to eat it and I have a right to be able to tell the difference, and if labels are not made mandatory, the industry will not label and I wont be able to make that decision. So who the fuck are you to decide for me?

Since the meat is identical (as in terms of quality), what right do you have to know the difference between cloned and normal stock? What does it accomplish? All it does is create an unfair playing field for businesses. The businesses that have put in millions in research on cloned meat (which could eventually help further cloning research itself and allow for general acceptance) will not have a fair advantage because of people like you who love to slander them because they choose to do things differently, and use scare tactics in an attempt to hurt their business.

You have said similar things about flouride in our public tap water (you say it causes cancer ROFL). This hasn't been proven at all so I'm guessing you'll be saying the same retarded shit about cloned meat soon enough.

Honestly we all know due to the cost of cloning those animals would not typically be made for breeding stock unless it is very high end ubber gourmet odd epicureans such as some of the Japanese whom want a copy of that prized heirloom Kobe steer.

Then since all know and live in a very capitalistic country. It would be very quick for assorted farms and meat packers to jump on the "non cloned, all organic, no hormones, free range" meat labels to take advantage of the consumer demand for such products.

This really boils down to extra labeling when it is not needed, in general food. Where we all know damn fucking well that the markets will correct everything and still give the consumers the choices they desire.

and you can guarantee that when they do start packaging cloned beef, etc....that the companies packaging it will mark it up SO high, just like they do with organic

so, minusonebit, I hope you enjoy paying that $9/pound for your organic non-cloned beef, I will sit back and enjoy my soul-less cow burger

personaly i dont care if its from a cloned animal or not

But I do feel that if minusonebit feels the need to know if its cloned or not, he should have that right. Kinda like when the vegetarians got upset about meat fat or whatever in McDonald's deep fryers. The choose to be vegetarians and didnt want thier fries cooked with meat. Sounds reasonable to me.

Sample comment letter. Intended to be printed on letterhead, hence the reference in the tag paragraph to "the address above".

Division of Dockets Management (HFA-305)
Food and Drug Administration
5630 Fishers Lane, Rm. 1061
Rockville, MD, 20852-0003

Docket Number: 2003N-0573
Date: January 1, 2007

To Whom It May Concern:

Thank you for this opportunity to present my comments with regard to Docket 2003N-0573, concerning the proposed Draft Guidelines for Industry regarding cloned animals as a food source, issued by your agency on December 28, 2006.

Regardless of the fact that the flesh of cloned animals or plants may indeed appear to be, given today's scientific capabilities, identical on a molecular level to animals that have not come to be through cloning, I respectfully submit to you that this irrelevant to the issue at hand. The issue is whether or not industry would be required to label meats and other foods who have come to be by way of cloning as having such an origin.

All consumers have the right to be fully informed about the items they put into their bodies, before they consume said items. Should we allow industry to refrain from labeling foodstuffs which contain cloned items, consumers who decide for whatever reason that they don't wish to consume cloned foodstuffs (as well as those who decide that they would prefer a diet consisting entirely of cloned foodstuffs) will be unable to execute their decision as a result of lack of information. We already require that nutritional labels be placed onto foodstuffs for this very reason.

For these reasons, I urge you to revise the Draft Guidelines to include a requirement that all meats and other foods that are made up - in whole or in part ? of cloned items; be required to display a label indicating this fact as well as the origin of the cloned ingredients and the quantity of such ingredients contained. Additionally, I urge you to provide for stiff penalties to include plant closure and fines for willful failure or refusal to comply with the revised guidelines.

If there are any questions about my comments, please feel free to contact me anytime via telephone at (Phone Here) or by mail at the address above.

Sincerely yours,

(Name Here)
Purchaser and Consumer of Food

Do I look like someone who gives a good goddamn about souls? I have said many times that I am an Atheist, I don't think anyone or anything has a soul. Souls are Christian inventions to help them sleep at night, just like this Jesus Christ character that they love so much.

Organic food has nothing at all to do with souls, it has everything to do with the omission of poisons, chemicals and pesticides as well as growing using renewable, sustainable methods that don't overtax the land or treat those in the stockyards like shit. Its about keeping family farmers on their land, stopping urban sprawl and keeping CAFOs out of our backyards.

While I sort of see your point, being a vegetarian is a lifestyle choice that requires a completely different sort of rules. True hardcore vegans won?t even drink milk or eat cheese? anyways for the rest they still try to have a zero meat diet period. Mcdonalds fries were thought to be vegan (whether or not mcdonalds claimed this, I do not know). When it was found out that beef fat was being used, a lawsuit took place.

What we?re talking about (cloned meat) is still in the realm of eating meat; since this meat is identical quality wise to the normal meat you would find at the best of restaurants, there is no reason for a label. All a label will do is serve as another tool by the religious right to use against cloning, and hurt any companies who have invested deeply in the cloning process.

I hope all the clone haters do realize that cloned vegetables have been around and eaten for countless years now right.

Maybe they need some labels too huh?

Why? Just because you put your opinion in all caps doesnt make it right. Or the fact that its a well known opinion presented as fact.

Exactley why do you have that right? The entire concept of cloning is to create something identical, and if they actually create something identical then it shouldnt matter wheter or not the food was cloned and in reality you'd be wasting the goverment a huge pile of cash just because your a paranoid guy that dont really understand cloning.

Im just saying that if you want to convince someone you have to use actual arguments, not just presenting opinions as facts.

McDonalds did in fact at one time claim no meat products were used in any way in the production and preparation of their fries. When the 'beef flavoring' info came out, was my wife ever pissed. hehe.. she hasn't set foot in a McDonalds since.

If you knew half the shit that went into your food, things that happen during processing, you'd quit eating.
Oh and that steak you just ate, could be horse meat and you are none the wiser.
Ever wonder what that crappy meat is the Mcd's serves as sausage patties that has a shitload of spices to mask the rotten meat taste?

Oh get off the damn negative conspiracy spin of Mcd's.
They do not use inferior meat, nor do they use rotten meat for sausage. Sausage has a shit load of spices because it is fucking sausage.

While it is foolish to blithely assume that employees, co-workers, employers, neighbors, and relatives are acting at all times in our own best interests, I think we can all agree that it is perfectly reasonable to trust government agencies to do what's best for us. Not only reasonable, 100% airtight and logical, I daresay.

I refuse to eat meat that comes from the Wyoming since it smells kinda funny. Can we get a label for that too?

Oh and I also don't like the color brown much either so I'd like a label telling me what the color of the cow the beef came from is as well please so I can avoid brown cow meat.

Could you add these to your ACTION ITEM NEWS TEAM REPORT as well please it's really been bugging me lately that they don't label meats properly.

some of you are so fucking stupid its unbelievable!!!

do you really believe when they will clone food it would be identical
to what we have now
lol

nothing is what they say it is, its all about money..
they will clone things that in nature will die .. because they are crap

see .. in nature shit smells .. so other animals don't eat it.. but our food industry .. process animal shit .. remove the smell and feed it back to your cows and chicks.

they even feed other dead animals to cows and non carnivore mammals.

so if that's how they abused the system until now .. do you think less labeling is a good idea

in the end i don't give a rats ass about you idiots because .. i eat only organic meat.

only for the fact that i know where $$ is the only important factor .. zango is a good idea, for the owners of zango.. and cows that make huge amounts of milk are good for the milk industry and cows that have huge hind is excellent for the meat market

but not necessarily good for my health or yours.

so if you want to be ignorant about life .. good for you but don't be stupid and at least give your future a chance

first step, we don't care if animals are cloned.....why not use the same genetic code of a perfect meat producing animal?

next we won't care when humans are cloned, so long as we get our livers & extend life by 30 years

next we'll realize we can edit out all the bad diseases & cancer, so why not have our children born without them?

then we'll realize human emotions aren't logical & therefor unneeded, eventually we'll have them edited out of our newborns....perfect logical humans

in the end what are we left with?

total truth, we're walking genetic CODE, nothing more than organic computers, with no purpose, no soul, & no future......since when we conquer age, we'll realize eventually the universe will cease to exist.....so whats the point?

go watch Gattica & The Matrix people.....its not about giving a shit about food, its about opening pandora's box we can't close

welcome to the new user-friendly, much longer battery life, yet pointless world : )

I for one am very much pro-cloning and see nothing wrong with it. It?s not as if they will be growing crops of humans and butchering them for their organs; instead they will take your cells and clone the organs themselves. We?re a LONG, LONG way off from being able to do this but I firmly believe that the only way to get there is by starting small, such as with cloning animals for human consumption.

This issue is about progress. It?s about bettering mankind. It?s about improving ourselves through science and technology. Should we stop all medical science right now? Because if we do as you suggest we should stop with any technology that has the potential to be used for ?evil?? well guess what? Nearly EVERY technology comes with that risk.

Nuclear power is great if handled responsibly and it is relatively a clean source of power when compared to coal and oil. Yet that same power when wielded as a weapon can lead to countless lives being lost. Should we stop researching Nuclear power just because it has the potential to take lives?

Nanotechnology coupled with advanced robotics will eventually one day allow for small nanobots that will have the ability to repair our body from the inside, rather than having to have dangerous invasive surgery (that many times can lead to death just from infection of them having to cut you open).

BUT WAIT!

What if someone hijacks this technology and turns the nanobots into ultra killers that can?t be stopped :-O My bad, let?s not pursue nanotechnology and let thousands of people needlessly die. It?s for the greater good and all.

Half of what you mentioned is an awesome thing ? to be able to extend our natural lifespan even further than medical science has allowed for now and to allow our children to have a life free of such devastating diseases such as cancer. As to why you think we would want to remove our emotions (we?re not Vulcans LOL) I have no idea. But if we have the chance in our lifetime to eliminate cancer? you don?t think we should do it?

I'm not talking about stopping science. I am talking about putting a label on fake food so people can tell the difference between real and fake. Why are you always so goddamn dense?

I just dont think its a good idea to be tampering with the makeup of our food sources. There could be implications from eating something constantly that is identical to what you have had before, maybe like an impact on our immune systems since everything we eat contains only bacteria of a certain type etc. In years to come would we have reduced the gene pool of cattle to just a few prime specimens? I dont think that is a good idea at all.

Do these concerns make sense? I just think that we need to be very careful when it comes to tampering with nature. Im all for stem cell research etc so dont shout me down but in this case everyone of us in years to come would end up eating this cloned stuff we need to be sure of its effects on future generations to come.

Very unfounded concerns. Many of the vegetables and fruits that you eat are essentially clones, they have been for years. We've seen no worse-for-wear there and to assume that you would see different results in cloned meat is silly.

Fruits too

I wonder how many people ever LOOK at labels? Think you're getting a great deal on chicken or meat? Take a look at the label and there's probably a percentage of water in it. Maybe even water with FLUORIDE IN IT!!!

I agree. I think kids conceived In Vitro should wear a "Fake" label on their forehead.
