Man oh man movings hard when you own a rottwieler :(

I'm moving back to Ottawa in next month or so and damn it's hard to find a place that allows dogs these days

Even had one " secured " until the owner asked me what type of dog I have and the declined renting to me and refunded my Deposit

I can't believe that it's this hard , Starting to look like I'll have my choice of a ghetto town house in da hood , or a down home country style house in the sticks :P

I've got one last " in city " house to check out and then I'm giving up .. ghetto here we come.

I own him so I love him and can't understand it , but what the hell is wrong with renting to people with dogs? hell my kids do more damage than the dog ever would and the last home owner said " I don't care if you have 15 kids , that'd be fine .. but no dogs "

can't believe people just expect you to give up pets like that :P
I even offered a $1000 security deposit ( in cash not check ) and it's NO !
WTF

Wait until you actually own a home and have to get homeowners insurance.

Rotweillers are awesome dogs... but I can understand why a lot of places are making it difficult for you. I had one several years back and even though it wasn't trained to kill or anything, it was still a pretty mean dog to people on the outside of our fence.

Kids would ride by on their bikes and it would freak out. I always felt nervous, even though I knew it was secured inside our gates. On the plus side, having one makes you feel incredibly safe inside your home.

Best of luck to you.

Okay I hear that , but seriously man I offered $1000 cash as deposit against any damage or problems

I mean the worst he's gonna do is dig a hole in the backyard or something

For the dog to do that much damage he'd need to be seriously fucked up

Just noticed the offer of $1k security . . . that is pretty funny.

They are not turning you down because the dog might dig a hole in the yard or something, they are turning you down because your dog might bite someone.

I have some friends that have a rott and pitbull and their last landlord made them get a $1 million policy, then bumped it to $2 million. . . . and he was banging the girl's grandmother. They moved.

That sucks. But you will eventually find somewhere that suits though...

see above

While you may be sure you dog won't bite anyone, the landlord has no reason to believe that.

Would liability not fall on me though , and on renters insurance ?

Maybe I'm misinformed

Think "deep pockets." Are you getting a million dollar policy in case your dog does bite someone? I never heard of renter's insurance that covered their dog hurting someone. Usually it is for protection of your property.

I know you love your dog, But isn't more important to have a good place for your kids and not be in the ghetto? I hope you can get it worked out so you find a good place.

heh , Well if no other house will take him there's one in the ghetto in ottawa that will allow him , but it's in a real bad area of town that I'm not sure I wanna live in :P ( but on a side note I will have a rottie to protect from crooks etc )

BUT I love my dog enough that a few months in the ghetto is better than getting rid of him

My dad's checking out the last place for me tommorrow as I'm 600km away( this one knows I have a rottie and is fine with it ) but we're unsure if the house is big enough :P

A little ghetto's good for the kids , builds character ;)

We'd be " landing " there , and immediately looking for another place
I'm short on time here , lease is up Feb 1st.

I love dogs but there are alot of people that neglect there pets. And many people dont take the time to traine their dogs. This is why alot of owners refuse to rent to dog owners.

It's a bitch to go through. My sis went through the same thing last year with her rott. They had also gotten a place until the owners found out what kind of dog it was; then it was forget it. They ended up not moving because of it. No one wanted them because of it.

They're such adorable dogs, too, but there's that fear that'll never go away. And the ironic thing is the most anyone ever had to fear of the big fat head was him pissing on their shoes. That was his special way of greeting someone new. LOL ...Well, and that time he barfed on me a few months ago, but that's another story.

Oh guess I should clarify for you Americans

Our Ghettos in Ottawa are pretty soft core compared to yours LOL
So moving there isn't scary or dangerous for the kids .. They'll just be surrounded with a lot more ethnicity than we're used to.

That's crazy, but I do seem to recall someone telling you that you'd have troubles if you got yourself one of those dogs

Your crazy Tort laws in California are way, way, way different than in Canada. You can't compare liability insurance between the two markets.

Oh, so my dog can bite someone in Canada and I won't get sued? At least now I know where to go if I can't feed him.

Thanks :D

I'm really crossing my fingers so that this last place my dad's looking at tomorrow will be big enough .. and considering the homeowner is cool with a rottie .. I don't imagine it'll be too small , but ya never know

You won't get a multi million dollar judgment against you for a dog bite, no. Maybe if your dog kills somebody. Tort laws are totally different.

Let me give you an example:

If I assault somebody in Vancouver, they don't launch a civil lawsuit against me. Instead, I am charged criminally, and the victim has to apply to the "Victims of Crime Fund" who makes a payout based on real damage, loss of work etc. No punative amount is entered. This fund is funded by a "tax" on all judgments, including traffic tickets.

You won't find that in the USA.

Oh dude you have NO idea how bad I want out of here.

It might look like it's got alot if you're just passing through , but there's nothing here for me

Tired of all the rednecks too , fuckin hillbillies out here spot a city boy and cause problems all the time.

I go to the same timmies regularily and there's this one dude I'm pretty sure lives there that's always trying to intimidate me / starring me down for some odd reason.
guess it's cause I don't drive a pick up truck or wear cowboy boots LOL

Canadians don't sue as much as americans do from what I've seen/read, or at least not for every little thing or injury

If a dog bit me , or even my kid .. he'd have to do MAJOR damage before I'd sue. ( like rip an arm, leg or face off )

I really think the issue is damage but like I said , my kids will tear the place apart a lot faster than a dog will
