Is there a season when money is good?

I'm just curious if there's a season that webmasters don't blame a decline in sales on?

Everything about seasonal slowdowns is bullshit.

I got 5 years of paysite data to backup my claim.

Men want to smack their cocks all your round.

Do you beat off less in the summer than the winter?

Not likely.

I'm in my second summer of running a paysite and I have never experienced a seasonal slowdown (yet!).

On the otherhand when I was doing free sites and galleries, I used to see a summer slowdown in sales and revenue.

I think the difference is due to recurring billings and the holdback. With my paysite, my recurring sales, as well as my 5% holdback, act as a "dampener" and shortterm declines in new sales aren't even noticed in the revenue.

But for my freesites most of my income came from flat fee sales ($35 to $42 bucks per sale up front), as is the case with most guys. So you really notice any drop in sales as significant drops in revenue. And like I said this is what I used to experience with the major sponsors in July and August - especially last year - 2001.

I think this accounts for most of the ongoing debate about "is there really a summer slowdown or is it a myth?"

Generally, paysite owners don't see it, but most freesite guys do.

That's my on the subject.

My vibrator is solar powered so I only masturbate during daylight hours. Summer is best for me because of the longer days.

It is hard to tell with only two years of data in my case, but I think there is such a thing as a seasonal downturn. Summertime is slow, and at the very least, growth has always stopped for us in the summer. The other thing I notice isn't as long-term... holidays, maybe a week at a time, can hurt sales... more so for the winter holidays, but not nearly as long a down-time as summer.

Not likely.

I've been on the web a bit longer than you, and there are definite seasons: Summer slows down around mid-June and doesn't really get back up to speed till early October; There's a Christmas slowdown that consumes most of December and January; there's a tax-time slowdown that starts 2 or 3 weeks before Tax Day and lasts just long enough to give you a few weeks before the summer slowdown. There are short slowdowns on every national holiday as well.

In short, the real question should be "When AREN'T things slow?"

If you don't experience slowdowns, good for you. But don't speak for everyone.

Maybe you shouldnt speak for everyone either?

If your having a summer slowdow, you need to do a better job marketing. Im making more money this summer than i did during the winter.

Gary.. not to be rude, but you also have to factor in that if you were making next to nothing in January that there is nowhere to go but up.

When you have many many many thousands of members and enough years in the business you can most definitely see seasonal cycles in new sales.

A lot of it has to do whether you are dependent upon an affiliate marketing system.. because you're right.. people dont beat off less during the summer... but people sure do *promote* less during the summer and on holidays.

Every business has seasonal ups and downs.. and those wide/general seasonal increases and decreases (note that a decrease may just be *less* of a gain... not necessarily a loss)... and that i can break down those gains into hours as well.. fact is that there are certain times of *day* when sales are hotter than others.

good point hooper. But i got numbers to back up my claim. In january i made 8 dollars and in june i made 16 dollars. So i saw a 200% increase. Cant argue with those numbers.

I've noticed a slowdown every summer I've been in this business. When did the issue become my marketing? If I have to market harder in the summer, that would just prove there's a summer slowdown. Duh!

Look, figures from your site may seem important to you, but they are irrelevant in terms of statistical data re: the industry. I'm very happy for you if your profits have gone up, but did you consider you're on the front half of a bell curve and that two years from now you might very well be here crying in your beer. You're mortal just like the rest of us.

Overall, guys seem to spend less online certain times of year due to distractions and cycles of available cash. In the summer, men are home less and spending money more on summer activities. Around Christmas, money is spent on gifts.

Indeed, it would be remarkable if there were no slowdowns.
