This is a open-and-shut case of thievery.

They (AFF) are skimming sales. Not a rogue affiliate, THEY themselves (AFF) are buying up the keywords to prevent webmasters to get the credit, and they openly admit it and laugh at webmasters at the same time (a thread here on GFY made by Lars where he ridicules webmasters who expressed their disgust about this).

How is that not thievery, scumbag behaviour and utter classless?

If it wasn't because Lars and AFF are behind the stealing, everyone would be on a witchhunt about this.

They might as well have posted a screenshot of an internal stats shave module. It's that bad.

They buy this traffic at a loss to keep their DB of members as big as it is. I called them an told them to exclude my domain and they did. As you can see, as soon as they dropped it, someone else came in and bought it up. So, right now, I am doing the only thing I can do and having my programmer put up zango protection on my server. I will also do the same for OCCash.

B. My site is still being jacked. Just now it is being jacked by the guy who is bidding #2, and thus making his Zango buys more profitable that AFF's would have been. Now isn't that fucked up? If you want to be excluded from AFF Zango email someone at AFF and ask them to block you. The only thing you can do use your own Zango protection.

The content of his response was as predictable as its timing, because his company had been caught fair and square playing in the dirt and based on his handling of previous issues, spin was all we could expect. And spin we got. There was barely an attempt to provide justification, let alone credible justification.

I have written that I couldn't care less about Lars or about Zango, because both will be gone in a few years. Their importance right now is solely that they are symptoms of an immature industry which still has a lot of growing up to do.

Huge amounts of time and therefore money are wasted when an industry preys on itself and everyone in it is forced to be constantly looking over their shoulders instead of getting on with the job of expanding their market. That is what online porn has primarily been doing for the past 5 years. That is why a single company like Zango can generate turnover equivalent to 40% of what the whole of online porn produces. That is why online porn, after a decade, is still estimated at a mere 5% of the "adult entertainment" industry.

I retired into this business because of ill-health. I hadn't so much as looked at a copy of Playb*y since the barber who cut my hair as a teenager, left them out for his customers. I built my first website while reading "HTML in 21 Days". And I was earning 6 figures within 18 months. That's how easy it was to make money between 1996 and 2000.

Competition has increased dramatically since then and unfortunately the most prevalent response has been to start feeding off each other: the symptoms are everything from selling worthless traffic through to the use of scumware. Somewhere along the line the majority seem to have forgotten we are selling a product second only to sex itself in its appeal and that we have as close to a global reach as our payment processors will allow.

Charles Darwin wrote about the survival of the fittest. As is often the case with complex ideas, they become simplified and distorted when they enter the public arena. Darwin actually judged the ability to cooperate as a more powerful force for survival than individual strength and he credited the success of the human race to that ability. Business is the same: true professionals understand the difference between competition and activities which ultimately damage everyone. They will cooperate to rid their industry of the latter.

The scumware issue isn't a battle, much less a war. It's just part of an industry going through growing pains and that is a process which will take another 5-10 years to complete. The outcome is inevitable: the cowboys of the industry, however they qualify for that sobriquet, will end up as insignificant figures on the sidelines.

Unless you believe that online porn will be the first industry ever to resist that transition, there are two things to think about. The first is that those who focus on building their businesses will emerge in a much stronger position than those who try to make time stand still, grabbing an extra dollar for themselves here, a few cents there, from their existing sales.

Behaviour like this --- knowing full well that supporting zango is wrong, yet cockily laughing in the faces of 100's of webmasters isn't something to be proud of, not by any stretch.

Fact is, every day more an more webmasters are cluing in to the kind of threat zango and like companies pose to all of us. Programs that choose to thumb thier noses at us will in all likelyhood eventually have to stop what they're doing and start doing what's right.

I'd like to see a list compliled of all companies that support the zango style of adware marketing.

hey Jay you might want to ask him about this. When I go to your site and I click your AFF links/ads it pops up a Zango page with cams.com on it. Ask Lars who gets credit if your surfer signs up to that cams.com

Btw, your surfer will not see your AFF page until they Cams.com first had a shot at them, which you make no money from. Ask him about that.. here is t he visual....

EDIT: it is full screen. I reduced the zango page to fit so you could see yoursite under it. zango pops up 100% of the time FULL SCREEN over you site and the surfers will think the zango page is yours the majority of the time.

We all know that all surfer see that little bar at the bottom and understand what that means LOLOL

But don't you have cams.com on your site. When someone clicks cams.com they still hijack your traffic and send it to AFF. Cams.com is not dating. so doesn't that blow up the whole excuse they gave you.

Wrong.. They're just paying to be part of the others that will pop-up. i.e. Others are also buying and they all end up getting poped up at some point, so all they're doing is getting some fraction of the pop-ups. Maybe for some of their keywords they get 100%, others maybe 20% etc.

It wouldn't be so bad if they were "protecting" their own sites/domains like they claimed they were doing it for. But they're not, they're buying other keywords as well. And even if THEY're not, now some of their affilaites are. But because they can't exactly cancel the accounts of those using Zango since they also use Zango, all they're doing is making it worse.

Instead of being ethical industry leaders, they're just proving that this biz is filled with slimeballs by stealing or allowing the theft from other WMs and program owners.

I talked to lars at lenght about this (on ICQ not phone) but more then one time after i made my first couple posts about it, before AFF admitted to it, and I was sympothetic to him because he told me he didnt even know what zango was. So I tried the direct approach long before the ranting and raving here. When he started making excuses for it and insulting us, then I turned my attention to him personally.

I would be thrilled if AFF stopped supporting that crap. You are right, the its a long process, but like anything else each victory (company that stops using them) is a major step in the right direction. AFF is the biggest therefore would be a huge step for all of us if they tell zango to go fuck themselves and got on our side of this issue.

And as we continue on, remember everyone here benefits from it including you.

No worries dood. I've had 2 phone calls with AFF today...while I won't divulge what was said...they are doing some serious thinking about them and this whole Zango issue. You might see some big suprises next week.

the problem is, once they decide that zango is a bad way to go, is that he laughed at everyone, calling them sheep and flaunting all his money for weeks now....what he did to his own reputation can never be brought back

AFF has ruined their rep completely, aside from being 100% supporters of password and warez trading sites, they also have no issue with adware that steals sales, they are complete scum that get part of their income from ripping others off

As for #2, there are other dating programs who aren't fucking affiliates with Zango yet you continue to use aff. (Try Camazon, Iwantu or Datinggold)

I will not support any program that uses Zango, just the same as I won't support programs that have been caught shaving, ripped people off or have disrespectful sigwhores posting for them. The same goes for content stores who jack content, designers who do not deliver and coders who can not get the job done.
