I would love to hear more about the "book of the month club cam shows."

I am a founding member of a local reading club. We recently read "stranger in a strange land" for the club.

I worked in a public library for all four years of high school, so I love talking about and recommending books. I used to read all the new sci-fi books before they were put out for the patrons.

I think that I have read about 90% of the Asimov & Heinlein stuff. I don't know of any of their books I haven't read, but I can't say that I have read them all.

(I read quickly and read most books in one sitting. I recently read "the fountainhead" in one sitting, so appearantly I can still do it.)

My current favorite Sci-fi author is Orson Scott Card. I also like Octavia Butler. Of course, I had to re-read Lord of the Rings because of the movie. I got the books for my 9th birthday and read the hobbit immediately and LOTR about a year later. (this was probably my 10th read. I'll re-read it again this fall.)

I should also mention that I have an interest in the computer game Core War. In core war, you write programs which are loaded into a simulated computer with a competetor. The two programs then try to destroy each other to win. My interest is actually not in writing the programs, but in using genetic algorithms to evolve core war warriors which can beat the warriors written by human players. This has been attempted by many people, but not accomplished as of yet.

my book of the month club goes like this...

My members and I pick a book and read it. Then at the end of the month I do a special cam show where we discuss the book during the first half and then I do the regular dirty cam show activities but we base it on something from the book we read. Then I post the cam show on my site and a picture gallery.

So far we've done The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Story of O and Steel Beach. My members are big into sci-fi so we'll probably do a lot more of that.

I had a feeling you were going to ask that. The Heinlein was our very first BOM, so the idea wasn't as well-formed as it is now. We only did a small gallery and didn't really dress up like the characters. I guess if we were going to do it today Ric would dress up like Mike. :winkwink:

This was taken two years ago in Canada on the northern shore of lake Huron in November. We thought it would be a nice place to go and try to see the northern lights.

My fantasy is to have laptop, cell phone, satellite internet, battery and solar technology get good enough so that I can work and backpack at the same time. Do you think it would be geeky to show up at a client's doorstep with a backpack full of technology, get the project requirements, then head out to the backwoods, only to emerge with a tan and new software?
