The research also found men actively display their phones more than women in social situations to look important and popular and also to show off to male peers.

Probably true. It's to show they make money enough money to afford a phone and have nice pretty shiny thing that they can call people on and get phone calls.. so they are oh so important.. much more important than someone with a 6 month old phone..
