With the metric system a US penis would sound alot bigger... what would you rather have, when trying to impress some hot foreign chick:

7.8 inches :Oh crap or 20 centimeters :GFYBand

Just due to cost i'd imagine, oh and stuborness

directfiesta 11-04-2006 04:02 PM

I've got a 2000 square liters piece of land to sell ... If Baddog buys it, I will throw in 3 kilometers of gas ( we all know that it is his main concern in life.. gas ... ).

Why don't you answer the question? What do I have to gain by going metric?

Mr. Marks 11-05-2006 12:51 AM

Backward compatibility costs with the shit that already exists. The USA is the largest economy in the world......imagine the cost when we have convert existing physical, techno, and cultural infrastructure to metric.

On the flipside, it does create tons of jobs. Think: y2k conversion.

Funny, I have a fuel receipt here that says I just bought 8.67 gallons of gasoline. How much easier can that be?

this is beautiful example of metric system. 8.67 does not exist in English Imperial system you love. This is metric system (100 smaller units in one big).

Here you see, that English Imperial is not capable to measure fuel you bought and you have use metric methodology to easily measure hunderds of gallon.

Funny is, that by trying to defend English Imperial System, you just show, that it's outdated and metrics is much better...

What is to be gained with compatibility? You have been married before. Think about it.

It is easier to put 4 or 5 revolving disks with the numbers 0-10 than it would be to break down by cups.

yeas, and thats the principle of metrics.

EDIT Btw this is measured in centigallons I guess...

It's cute that you think decimals are derived from the metric system. If you're too simple-minded to understand anything but whole units, perhaps you'd better stick to the metric system.

cute is, that you dont understand, that English Imperial is uncapable to measure parts of units in convinient and easily calculated way.
So you have to use decimals to split galon in hunders smaller units to easily show how much fuel you've bought. This is not a part if Imperial system.

Using English Imperial System would mean, that on your bill it should say 8 gallons 2 quarts 1 pint and 4 gills (didnt calculated it - units recalculation in Imperial in pain in the ass and im lazy).

So you have to adopt logic behind metric system to deal with shitty Imperial for everyday life.

But you will never admit this - you are a proud patriot, you are an American, so you are correct and we are idiots. Nice.

Main difference between US and rest of the world is, that most of the rest of the world know, that they make mistakes and they are ready to learn from others.
Many US guys i've met in US (9 months living there) were absulutelly sure, thet they are the best the best the best and the best. That they do not have to listen, do not have to learn from other and NEVER EVER admit, that something they use, is a piece of outdated shit.

Ahh, you don't like Americans. Man, just say that instead of pretending that it's our system of measurement you hate.

well after nine months of daily dealing with Imperial crap, I can say, thay I hate English Imperial System and that it's really shitty crap.
And I have many US friends but found large group of empty heads having few things common - they dont think, they are "real christians" and they are proud patriots.

EDIT Simplicity od average US surfer is giving me the money - sell crap and shit to European surfer is much more complicated - they tend to use the brain much more...

DutchTeenCash 11-05-2006 04:04 AM

Or worse some adapt some wont, like in the UK where they still use half metric half imperial... or Italy that still had Lires instead of Euros in some parts and needed a court order to really get rid of the old Lires.

Let the US have their system, we cant all be the same.

The metric system has no advantages for me. Not one.

You are the one getting upset because everyone doesn't agree with you. I'm cool with countries being different.

Now I am going to get in my car that has a 350 cubic in. engine, drive 2 and a quarter miles, buy a 16 ounce cup of coffee and a newspaper and watch the sun rise.

Are you serious? You *DO* measure the size of an engine by how much liquid the cylinders hold. That's how the precision is made. You've never seen how an engine is finetuned? They take an exact amount of liquid and fill a cylinder..now if the 2nd 3rd and 4th etc cylinders hold the exact same amount of liquid they're the same size... I thought you were a motoring man.. You don't just put a ruler into a cylinder and measure how long it is...

You yourself have nothing to gain by going metric. At least I doubt it. But your children and grand children have, and that is learning a simpler and much more logical system.

newfangled metric system baaah!!!!

Mr. Blue 11-05-2006 12:30 PM

Being an American I know both systems and was taught both systems in school. I have no problem converting the two and have no trouble when traveling abroad to convert between the systems.

So, why exactly does the rest of the world care what system we use? Perhaps we should also all be on: The same currency - it would make it easier, Speak the same language - Mandarin Chinese anyone? Same system of government...better yet, let's get a world government going.

Or perhaps you could find something better to do with your weekend...I know, it's a "Let's bash America" thread and it's really hard to resist, but seriously...this is almost as asinine a topic as when people were trying to shove soccer down our throats.

The obsession with minutia though is interesting. :thumbsup

As much US bashing in this thread, and it's citizens, makes me smile.

You hypocrites don't have a problem collecting the US Dollar.

Enough said. :)

Why is it "backwards"? because it's not what you use?

The fact is that neither is superior to the other. They are simply different. Why don't you speak Chinese? Based on your statement it must be important to know the number of people who who follow something, and there are more Chinese people than any other, so shouldn't you start speaking their language and stop your backward way of speech? Of course not.

Yet another "us" and "them" retard thread on GFY??

Since 99.9% could not even point to Boratland on a map - why bother about units of measure? It's like speaking to a brick wall :pimp

PS Only mentioned Borat cos he's more relevant

Isn't it a shame then that most of your almost 13,000 posts tend to live and die in threads exactly like this one. Perhaps you should utilize your time better :)
