you must be under the influence, myspace is not dying off - while there will always be a constant interest in "the latest social networking fad" (which myspace really is)... myspace has plenty of room to grow, many consistant users, many prospective users, myspace is only going to grow by leaps and bounds. mark my words.

I tend to agree with this opinion more than the thread starter's.

Google owns Orkut which is supposed to be very similar to MySpace... I wouldn't log into Orkut because it looks like complete shit.

Of course it will. Any company that has that much at stake and leaves site development stagnant (no changes, mod , upgrades, new versions, etc.) is waaaaaaaay too incompetant to stay around for the long haul.

MySpace wont sell again, not for a long while at least. The company currently holding it is just strategizing right now, the data MySpace has on people is incredible, and the ad sales alone do more than cover the cost of operating the website. MySpace is big brother when it comes to knowing what people want which is really important to alot of companies, and NewsCorp knows that.

Which is exactly why it would fit perfectly in Google's portfolio. Murdoch isn't dumb, if the right offer comes in he'll flip MySpace very fast.

I can't tell the future, but I know MySpace wasn't purchased because it was failing, it was purchased as it was booming... As long as the demographic (teens to 25) is still able to access it, it will. Myspace has the social networking niche cornered and there are too many benefits in owning it to sell, but if it were to sell, we would see it go for record numbers.

Murdoch won't flip MySpace. He was late to the Internet game and made a risky purchase (Google were offered Myspace) . He's an empire builder and sees his old world media assets depreciating as a result of the Internet. He has to have an online strategy and at the moment MySpace is it. He's not all of a sudden going to abandon it.

Of course Google already have made a play for MySpace since News Corp bought it. They offered 900 million for the search revenue from Myspace and other News Corp sites till 2010, and Murdoch accepted.

Nope it won't happen unless they really start slacking or another service comes along thats 10 times better but I honestly don't see that happening. Myspace could be put in the same catagory as amazon.com, ebay.com, paypal.com, google.com, yahoo.com, hotmail.com. None of these websites will be going anywhere anytime soon and sadly neither will myspace.

Didn't it go for record numbers in the first place?

That's the idea, if Google realize they can make more off MySpace by owning it than by paying commission to NewsCorp, they're likely to make a new move to purchase the site. They may have passed on it the first time, but that doesn't exclude them changing their minds once they see it bring in steady revenue without a sign of declining. Obviously this is mere speculation, but to me it makes perfect sense.
