Webmaster Access: LA tips. Add yours if you are a local, if you aren't, read on.
I wrote this a year or two ago. I revised it for this year's show and posted in on Midget Army. I am sure the other SoCal following here on GFY can add to it, or even give opinions on mine.
All the same, nice to have people coming to our backyard, looking forward to seeing you all. Hope it helps : ) Full summary of 11 tips, guide to LA 1) ?I booked to LAX but someone told me that is stupid.? 2) ?What is The 405? Why do people call use an article for freeways?? 3) ?What is the Valley?? 4) ?Will I see any celebrities?? 5) ?Should I run to a doorway if there is an earthquake? What do people mean when they say it was a ?roller? or a ?shaker? What is ?earthquake weather? 6) ?What is the deal with calling LA escorts to my hotel room?? 7) ?What is actual Hollywood? Why do straight people go to West Hollywood at night when it is a gay area?? 8) ?What do people mean when they say ?it feels like Santa Ana today,? or ? the Santa Anas are killing me today??? 9) ?Why do people say that LA sucks for nightlife?? 10) ?I heard LA has a lot of crime, drive by shootings and that you should stay away from South Central LA? 11) ?What is something really cool to do in LA that is near our hotel??

A Santa Ana just ended here. I miss it already. :-(
Here's a good question: What are taco trucks? Are they safe? What breed of dog do they use?

Dont go on any freeway between the hours of 8am - 8pm, unless you enjoy traveling at 10 mph all the way to your destination.

Nice advice... LA is unlike most other cities that I have found becuase it is so large and spread out... Most cities have a city "center" but LA has many smaller centers and areas to see instead.

YUM Tommys!! Thats the only restaurant I know of that you can use as an excuse not to go to work the next day... "Sorry, I cannot come in to work today, I had tommys for dinner last night" I have used that and it worked with no questions asked!

Nice little writeup, I'll be going for about 2 weeks and it's pretty much my first time other than a 2 nighter a few years ago, so it's a nice little primer...
So how exactly does one leave LAX then at 4:30pm? I'm assuming there's no quick way ![]() |

"I know, I know, you are too cool to care about seeing a celebrity. I can?t tell you how many times I have heard that. I worked in Hollywood a long time and every time someone said that, the next thing you knew they were falling on the floor when Pauly Shore walked in."

Fly into Burbank whenever possible. It is worth thwe extra $100 for the ticket over LAX, especially for the Webmaster Access destination.

santa anas were off the hook yesterday in the valley. they were blowing so hard that i was driving down the street and it literally pushed me almost off the road.
heres a don't for hollywood. DON'T: Park a car on a residential street while attending an event and expect to find it past 8am the next morning. Any street within a mile of the Hollywood strip is permitted for residents that live there or signed either no parking or 2 hour parking from 8am to 12mid. Either that or theirs those damn signs for street cleaning. I almost lost a car a few weeks back when we went to the rainbow and metal school with xxxjay and pb's crew. Got drunk and said it will be ok, came back and found a bunch of tickets on it. Luckily it was not towed. |

The San Diego Freeway doesn't go to San Diego, it ends near Santa Ana.

405 / 101 interchange = busiest interchange in the world. 405 / 10 interchange = second busiest in the world 405 / harbor = this is just south of the 405 / 10, however, it isn't ranked, but I cried there once, because the traffic was so bad and I had to pee. Your cabby may take the Harbor freeway north to Downtown LA, to avoid all of this. By doing this, you will quickly develop a false sense of calm when you are flying down the freeway. Then comes downtown. It is a crush of cars, it looks like a stadium parking lot. Once you finally get on the 101 north, you will have plenty of opportunity to gets some pictures of downtown LA.

When I first moved to LA, like 8 or 9 years ago, I got on the 101 and tried to exit the 405 south which would lead me to Santa Monica. I got on the ramp that changes you over. The wait was so long that some guy got out of his car, sat on his hood, and lite a cigarette.
If you think I am kidding, ask other LA folks. This shit happens all the time. Now, you might be thinking, "I am from Atlanta or Houston, I heard it is worse than LA." Allow me to explain. During the actual rush hours, as deemed by the entire country in large metropolitans, large cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, and Houston are likely comprable. But that isn't what makes it bad. 1) In LA, the distance you travel from point A to point B is often much further. LA square-mile wise, is only smaller than Baghdad. 2) The rush hour occurs all day and most of the evening, early night. On friday night, the 405 in Santa Monica is terrible until just under 11pm. The 101 is awful until about 2am. 3) The absolute worst day of the week is Saturday. I dare you to drive on Saturday. When xxxJay first moved from Atlanta to Orange County, I invited him to lunch at Cheesecake Factory. He had to take the 405 from Huntington Beach to Irvine. I know some of you LA people are already cringing, this is considered a death zone. People have actually died where the 405 crosses Beach Blvd because of how long it takes. Jay called my cell around 2pm and asked me if there had been an accident or if the freeway had collapsed. LOL I told him welcome to LA buddy! LOL

Please stay off our roads. If you are unfamiliar with them you only make the problem worse.
If you are driving, be advised, motorcycles have the right of way. We can split lanes. If you are stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and see a bike approaching, move over a little and give us room. If you are a jerk about it you could easily end up with a boot indentation in the side of your car, or a sideview mirror knocked off. Just remember, if we weren't on our bikes we would only be making the traffic worse by being in another car. Thank you. |

The drive from my house in Venice to the show hotel is nothing short of hideous, unless you do it around say 3.30 am.
Driving in LA is not for the short of temper. One reason I don't go east of Lincoln unless there are extenuating circumstances, and losing a limb that only Cedars can reattach really doesn't qualify. Stay out of S Central when the Santa Ana's are blowing ;) |

All the cool "hipster" bars are on Cahuenga between Hollywood and Selma. Avoid Sunset Strip if you can. That place just sucks and it cost 20 bucks or more to park your car.
