When I first moved to LA, like 8 or 9 years ago, I got on the 101 and tried to exit the 405 south which would lead me to Santa Monica. I got on the ramp that changes you over. The wait was so long that some guy got out of his car, sat on his hood, and lite a cigarette.
If you think I am kidding, ask other LA folks. This shit happens all the time.
Now, you might be thinking, "I am from Atlanta or Houston, I heard it is worse than LA."
Allow me to explain. During the actual rush hours, as deemed by the entire country in large metropolitans, large cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, and Houston are likely comprable.
But that isn't what makes it bad.
1) In LA, the distance you travel from point A to point B is often much further. LA square-mile wise, is only smaller than Baghdad.
2) The rush hour occurs all day and most of the evening, early night. On friday night, the 405 in Santa Monica is terrible until just under 11pm. The 101 is awful until about 2am.
3) The absolute worst day of the week is Saturday. I dare you to drive on Saturday.
When xxxJay first moved from Atlanta to Orange County, I invited him to lunch at Cheesecake Factory. He had to take the 405 from Huntington Beach to Irvine. I know some of you LA people are already cringing, this is considered a death zone. People have actually died where the 405 crosses Beach Blvd because of how long it takes.
Jay called my cell around 2pm and asked me if there had been an accident or if the freeway had collapsed. LOL I told him welcome to LA buddy! LOL
