If you had 2000.00 to spend on a computer what would you get?
Well, Can't decide if I should buy a retail box DELL XPS
Or build another custom whitebox pc. I have a 2000.00 limit just for the PC don't need a monitor. What is the best system you could build for 2k |

I'd buy a $500.00 barebones box and then spend $1500 on content (or beer...I always get those two confused)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136033 149.00 its 10,000 rpm 76GB raptor. The second is just a caviar for data dumping, and its 250gb 7200 rpm. For what I do I use stackable external drives for 85% of the data I have to store. And they run off a file server so I use the raptor to write to while doing any encoding, editing, etc. Then I move it all to the file server each night. What hard drive would you recommend? Raptor is one of the fastest commercial drives out there. My eternal drives are segate 400gb stackables. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148076 I add them as I need, and I keep a few 80GB externals laying around too. |

That processor is the best bang for the buck out right now. Dollar for power nothing is touching it.

I wouldn't have the system I have now if I had only spent $2k... plus I built my own system in order to not pay the manufacturer costs.

If you aren't a gamer and don't need a big video card you can get a good system in the 1.2 - 1.4k range...
Custom build it with OEM parts... always the best option. |
