Wireless guru's/network guru's...inside! Need help! - GoFuckYourself.com

Ok...i have a cable modem connected to a linksys (land line based) router...with the cords & all. NOT WIRELESS

I now have a ethernet cord running downstairs, to a WIRELESS router.

The wireless router is obtaining an internal ip address from my Non-wireless router right now....but its not allowing my laptop to connect to the internet.

How do i need to set this up?

(And no...going all wireless is not a option)

ping the ip of the wired

see if either/both respond

you said you can connect to the wireless router..
ping its ip, see if you get a reply
ping the wired see if you get a reply

if yes to both then ping 64.233.187.99 (thats google)
if you can ping that its just a dns issue - go in network settings and specify the dns rather than obtain auto.

yea...i had them both set to the same ip...that might have been one issue

i'll come back in a few once i've changed the wireless routers ip

ok so once i clear up the easy problem of both routers having the same .1 ip lol

a non-wireless router, should be able to provide internet access to a wireless router correct?...& the ethernet cord should go from the non-wireless....to the uplink on the wireless? (like where you would normally plugin a modem?)

Hey pr0....Not that GFY is a bad place for such things but just so you know, Linksys support is open 24/7 and is free.

You may also want to turn DHCP off on your wireless since your wired router is handling that.

I use a similar network of Linsys products at home and have had to figure it all out.

Add to yours a couple of Linksys WAP's, a Linksys VOIP router for Vonage, and a few 6, 9, and 12db High Gain antennas.

I got tired of dropped signals and such. Don;t have wireless problems anymore.

Use static routing for the whole thing.

Make sure they both have separate ip address's
Let's say wired router = 192.168.1.2 and it's configured to connect to your modem.
Wireless router will need a different ip ex. 192.168.1.1, make sure the wireless router's gateway/dns is set to the wired router(192.168.1.2)

Make sure your laptop is set to connect to the wireless router(192.168.1.1) and not the wired one.

Other then that everything should work. And, like I said set it all up with static ip address's. I hate dynamic NAT
