no offense but worrying about that sort of thing is insane , those sound like urban myths to me. no supporting links or articles to back up these supposed stories.. if you have kids you already check every place they go as a habit ( if you dont , some email prob isnt going to help )

Im sure things like this "could" happen , and if there are parents out there that just send their kids off willy nilly i suppose it might help but doubtfull

Claim: A little boy dies after being pricked by a heroin-filled syringe in a playground ball pit.

Status: False.

Origins: Readers, take heart ? as frightening as this story is, there's nothing to it. No little boy, named Kevin Archer or otherwise, died in such a fashion, in Sugarland, Texas, or
anywhere else. (Later versions of this baseless scare placed the action in either Midland or Midrand, Texas, and occurring on 2 October 1999. Some versions simply stated the incident occurred in Midrand, with no U.S. state mentioned, which left a town in Africa under the gun.)

The claim about the Houston Chronicle's running a story about the boy's death is equally false. The article doesn't exist, yet so many believed the e-mail's claim that there had been such an article, the paper was prompted to run a denial in February 2000 attempting to put down these rumors. The Midland Reporter-Telegram ran such a piece itself once a shift in the rumor made it appear this horrific apocryphal incident happened in that city. And, of course, McDonald's says there's nothing to this:
Thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's Corporation directly to receive accurate information regarding a rumor you have heard. We have thoroughly investigated this rumor and it is absolutely not true. There have been no such incidents ever reported at any McDonald's. Before letting your child loose in one, make sure the play area's maintenance staff spot cleans the pit once a day and washes all the balls every week. Diapers come off in ball pits, and half-eaten candy is routinely found in there. More disturbingly, syringes and knives have turned up in ball pits.

Another "death in the ball pit" legend circulates on the Internet, this one about a tot who fatally encounters a nest of baby rattlesnakes lurking beneath the balls. It too is false.

I agree... i mean really, what are the chances that there is a poisonous snake nest in a ball pit in burger king?? All the McDonalds and BKs are being completely rebuilt here and the play area's are in doors. Anyways, i almost never take my kids in those play area's because they are dirty..

Anywhere where lots of kids play is gonna be nasty and loaded with bacteria, viruses, germs, molds, insects, staph, crap, pee, etc. Its crazy to even let your kid in those pits.

First thing I do when my kid gets home from school is make sure he washes his hands with anti-bacterial soap. If you get them into good hygiene at an early age they'll stick with it as they get older.

Another place that is gross is parks where they have public swimming pools and hundreds of kids all in the same water. You see all sorts of strange looking things floating and I really don't believe they chlorinate those things enough to kill all the germs in there.

Public restrooms are nasty as well.

It IS fake BUT: yeah, those ball pits are really cesspits; I saw a news report once where they'd checked them out and the ball pits were just chock-full of nasty things. They'd have to clean and sterilize every ball daily; i don't know how many places do that.

I dont know about snakes and needles, sounds quite ridiculous to me... Although I can assure all of you that some of these play area are FILTHY. My ex has a 5 years old girl and we stopped at a Harvey's in Quebec once. They didnt had the ball pitts, but tubular plastic structures to climb in. I got in with her since i was small enough to find out gum stuck all around, a dirty old sock, rather mysterious 'sticky stains' that im hoping was just cola that spilled, and all kinds of stuff. Trully not hygienic, maybe not to the point of killing a child but still pretty gross.

First thing I do when my kid gets home from school is make sure he washes his hands with anti-bacterial soap. If you get them into good hygiene at an early age they'll stick with it as they get older. Another place that is gross is parks where they have public swimming pools and hundreds of kids all in the same water. You see all sorts of strange looking things floating and I really don't believe they chlorinate those things enough to kill all the germs in there.
