It IS fake BUT: yeah, those ball pits are really cesspits; I saw a news report once where they'd checked them out and the ball pits were just chock-full of nasty things. They'd have to clean and sterilize every ball daily; i don't know how many places do that.
Never mind that those things had come from kids in the first place, who wants their kid rolling in it?
