To be honest, I harbor no ill feelings towards the majority of people on forums such as GFY, including you, AaronM, and others, despite what you zing at me.

I'm not such a bad person once you get to know me.

Sorry Nylz, I got to agree with Aaron in this one.

Why has no-one mentioned Pimproll/Adult Elite yet? Probably one of the most successful programmes in this business and I know for sure they have a lot of DVD content.

We started producing Exclusive content for Twistys in January 2004 with Cirrus from Reyko. So back in 2004 we were 100% non exclusive.

We currently update 4 photosets a day and 1 video a day every single day of the year and 85% of that is exclusively produced material.

Frankly, with programs like topbucks, pimproll, hawg etc. etc. etc. offering all their exclusive content in leased feeds, if you had sites with great presentation and giving the surfer what they want, (something shap "should" have taught people with his success), you really wouldn't need exclusive content yourself.
I agree 100%.
The main reason we started producing exclusive content was the decline in licensed content particularly in the glamour market.

Here are a few of the companies that we used to buy from...
Matrix Content used to produce 28 new sets a week. That was enough for me to run just about all my updates. Then they dropped to 2 to 5 usable sets per week (ie not amateur/white bg sets).

Cloud9 was around and they got out of the market and into the paysite market.

Jokersx Scotty went on to become Mr Actiongirls.

Reyko stopped producing.

and on and on. Glamour content is very expensive to produce and the Glamour niche is so hard to penetrate and be successful in that there is not a huge demand for licensed Glamour content.

What we did was simple. Start Twistys for around $20,000. A very minimal investment. We implemented a solid member's area plan that included Daily updates. We made sure we treated our members the way we'd want to be treated. When the Licensed content market's future looked bad we decided to start producing our own content. Our updates never suffered. Our content only got better and better. Truth is it would have been imposible for us to start Twistys with 85% exclusive Glamour content. The cost to run a site that updates as much as we do with as much exclusive Glamour content as we have is insane.

An interesting note to end this post. Before we ran produced exclusive content we were running at insanely high profit margins. We were paying $50 a set that was photoshopped and ready to use. Now we pay $1000s for a shoot and we have to have the staff to photoshop it and video editors to prepare the videos. Our productions costs are insane. However it's still been extremely worthwhile. Exclusive content has really helped the Twistys brand excel to a level i never expected it to become. I mean in all honesty when Beth and I started Twistys it was all Matrix and Jokersx content. I didn't exactly see us competing with Playboy and Penthouse. Yet here we are 5 years later competing with two of the biggest names in the industry. Hard work really does payoff.

Twistys started with not eclusive content. Quickbucks is still banking with it.

And it is still possible to make very good money without having exclusive content.

Tell me a site or sponsor that makes more than "Beer money" who started in the last two years. Any sponsor, exclusive or not. Quoting programs who got in when it was easier is not the way.

While you're at it tell us 100% custom shooters who make more than beer money.

Great post.

I'm sure the point of this post is for Aaron to get more work and not educate people into buying/using more exclusive content. If it is maybe he would like to tell us who he is aiming at, the new sites or the Adult.com's of the world. New ones might be buying from a new supplier doubt if the big guys are.

Few of the sites he lists STARTED shooting exclusive 100%, Lightspeed come to mind. In fact some of the early sites were grabbing it from where ever they could, even out of sources not 100% legal.

Starting a paysite today with exclusive content needs a very big budget, which few will have. Following my model, which is similar to yours will cost $30,000 in content alone. Invest that into exclusive and you will not have enough to keep a few affiliates happy. Starting a site with $30,000 of exclusive content will be very very tough. And the big sponsors know this. They are trying to pull up the drawer bridge and shut the door.

You are right the good content providers have got out, can someone explain why they got out if non exclusive is saturated? Yes some saw it was easier to run a paysite than a content store, easier and more profitable, but they got out.

Twistys model was the best model for all new site owners. Build your content, traffic and membership base with good content. Update with as much as you can, then move to the exclusive market.

I guess when a program gets to a certain size there's always the cash to throw at an exlclusive project to test the theory that exclusive content does better. So if a program gets to a certain size it's almost inevitable they'll commission some exclusive content and thus stop being 100% non-exclusive. Doesn't mean exclusive content got them where they are.

It's funny when people start throwing programs left and right and speculating of their size based on god knows what and comparing programs that can't be compared in any sense. (not even sure what's that gota do with the initial question frankly)

Marketing sells, not exclusive content. Retention, that's another thing.
