WTF kind of nonsense is this? Ron's actually trying to make a public service announcement.

If you don't listen in on any of the radio shows, or listen to music on the radio, then it doesn't fucking apply to you so you can keep your peanut gallery comments to yourself.

If you do happen to listen to any of Dokks shows, Evan radio, any of the Netpond or PLR shows, then maybe you give a fuck and you'll want to send a copy of the petition out.

Seems to me that the shows such as albumside, with the interviews and business talk would be fine and can stay on. Just don't play music. Don't know any harm there would be there.
I listen to a station on the net that plays my kind of oldies that I can't get on a radio, so the demise of that would piss me off, but other than that, I'm not really sure I understand what there is to get upset about when you have a radio in the same room anyway probably.

Even your oldies would be gone...this is further reaching than just "webmaster radio"

The kind of music I listen t doesn't get played on the radio....hell it barely gets played on Internet radio....what this is is the RIAA being cockwads because they missed the boat on the internet music invasion...as a former concert promoter,I've dealt with this shit a lot...these guys don't give a fuck about the artists...they only care about filling their pockets...
here's something scarier than FM and KK agreeing on something...I am in agreement with FM....this isn't about shutting down Napster clones, this is about jacking up prices on internet radio stations that are already paying to ASCAP and BMI........

I own a hell of a lot of record copyrights...you should do what we do ...10 inch dub plate..no copyright!!!

Yes you make money on legit stations but I like the pirates and that is what the internet small boys are doing...if they want my back catalogue for free they can have it!!

Dam the pirates were the only stations to play our tracks when we first started.

** Disclaimer **
The following opinion is not the popular one. Hear me out.

I really don't see what the argument here is.. The record companies own the music, they should be able to set whatever rates they want.

Lets say that you shoot content, and there were a few thousand 'Internet video' services that show content slideshows 24/7. Now, most of these video services did pay you the $25 or whatever for the content CD, but now they're streaming it (and other content) to anyone that can manage to type in their website address.

If I were the content provider, i'd be pretty pissed.

content cd's have license agreements, music cd's don't

Well yeah, for now. Is that what you want?

this sucks
among others, there are MANY large net stations that help immigrants have a contact with their country, they help culture to cross borders and a fair freedom of speech.

well how would you feel if they decided they wanted to charge you more for the content and make it retro-active?

Well, if I had been told from the beginning that "Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited by federal law and subject to criminal prosecution", then I would feel afraid of being in a Federal prison!

what "unauthorized reproduction"?
this isn't about unauthorized reproduction...these are people who ARE ALREADY PAYING THE FEES TO ASCAP AND BMI.......jesus, maybe you should read up on this and learn more about it.....do you know that when we used to book fetival shows that we were expected to pay royalties on music we played over loudspeakers during changeovers? This isn't about not paying for the rights, this is about singling out a segment (internet broadcasters) who are already paying the normal fees and charging them more retroactively.......

My Soundblaster Audigy came with this awesome IM Radio Tuner program for internet radio stations, has hundreds of them sorted by category.. I like it ;) They play some pretty cool music, and there aren't any good electronica stations around here that I know of.. when I'm in the mood for that anyway

Anyway, FM, I'd fill out that form, but its for US residents only

"no more internet radio"

..... that doesnt mean the rest of the world goes silent too, theres still millions of stations in the rest of the world, i listen to a couple hosted in japan and they stream fine.

besides there will always be pirate radios... but whats gonna happen to shoutcast.com ??? =/

btw, there's a good point in a1ka1ine's post - most of the big stations will probably move to non-usa servers and continue working one way or another..

Nice thread guys, not to change the subject but as I read this I am learning how to control voltage and noise gates with a N64 controller... neat huh?

Digital music died when we got our hands on Moog.
