So I have this idea about a new concept for porn. I'm not sure if it can be called a niche or just a new type of porn.

The problem is that I don't have the money to develop it. How do I look for investors? Most importantly, how do I protect the idea from getting stolen if I reveal it to possible investors?

I have an advertising and marketing background, not electronic though. Secifically as a regional account exec for a big company. Regional as in a region of the world, not a country.

Doesn't matter if you get copied, only matters if you get to market first.
Unfortunately you're not going to find people willing to invest big $$ unless you have a proven track record in this biz.

Also, it's very possible that your "new idea" has been tried before, isn't really new it's just something you haven't seen before...or it may be a bad idea to everyone but you.

You may want to try for a bank loan and then proceed with the idea by yourself. Other than that, you'll have to disclose at least a general idea to the potential investors.
Also, as some people already mentioned, you can't copyright it. So the only hope that you have is getting to the market first and grabbing a large piece of it.

At some point you will need to disclose your idea. I think you've fallen into the adult business, GFY paranoia that all of your ideas are brilliant and exclusive. Or that everyone will copy cat you and by tomorrow you'd have 500 sites ripping off your idea.

Which I always find laughable.

But even if you took it to a RL bank, or borrowed the money from an online broker... at SOME POINT you are going to have to provide a business plan, or model for this 'genius' before people will loan you a cent.

If you can't give the idea, or a business plan, your idea is nothing.

Well, yes, you're all correct. I wouldn't give money to some guy with an idea on the board. By the way, I wasn't asking for GFY investors, I know that will never happen.

It's not like I think that all my ideas are pure genius, in fact, it's usually the other way around. That's why I'm going through so much trouble protecting this one.

I need to protect this idea until I'm the first one out there with it. I NEED to be first in the market. After that, everyone can lick my balls and copy it or do whatever they please. I don't think I would care because I was there first, and if I can develop it correctly, I shouldn't be afraid to have competition.

And yes, I'm in a tough spot. But I absolutely need to check and research the market before I can even hint something or look for investors.

I believe it's a great idea. Is there a market for it? I'll find out soon enough, although based on what I currently see out there, it's very possible.

Thank you for all the advice on the thread.

Also, I thought there was a standard way of handling this situation in the business. It seems that the only thing that can be done is a NDA and a no-compete if I want to tell someone about it.
