It arrived today, Now this is cool! [PIC]

Authentic 2000 yr old ring worn by an actual Roman Soldier (Tenth Legion note the "X"), I got it from an archaeologist from Australia, and after much waiting it has arrived today. An independent expert looked at photo's of it and offered me decent cash for it, but it is now my new pinky ring.

While doing a dig in the Balkans they came across a battlefield where the Roman X Legion fought many uprisings in the (then) province of Moesia. They served in Jewish uprisings in Jerusalem and were active during the lifetime of Christ, and other provinces around the empire under such rulers as Augustus and Mark Anthony.

It is a very strange feeling to wear this soldier's ring knowing were he has been. very strange.

History lesson over...

hooked up with somone online who sells wholesale.

BTW, it's bronze, which is typical for a working man (soldier) only aristicrats were allowed to wear gold and silver, and only voting citizens and soldiers were allowed to wear rings at all. They actually had strict rules and laws about rings.

This particular ring is worn on the pinky finger high up between the 2nd and 3rd knuckle, not all the way down to the hand like we do today, as not to get in the way of the sword.

The Fins only had an army of 300k and well the Fins beat the living crap out of the Russians. The Russian pulled back due to losing a million men and most of their equipment in the mountain passes and snow. The Fins were known for capturing Russian sniper rifles and customizing them to their preference.

I found out that my rifle was a captured rifle that was used by a Finish sniper. With the rifle came a logbook with the rifle identification number, cleaning, and personal info log. I tried to translate the log, but it kept mentioning ?broken sticks? all the time. I later found out that this term was used for killed Russian soldiers. The Rifle I purchased has 43 ?broken sticks? in its log book with the dates.

These shots were at a 100 meters with factory surp ammo.

Stalin was so outraged about the defeat he killed most of his top generals and due to this Germany launched its invasion in Russia. You can read more info if you like here. also, the worlds best sniper is Finnish with over 500 kills.

Pornguy, That is True for earlier legions during the time of the republic, before the empire but later that changed, and also greek soldiers were forbidden from wearing rings I believe (not 100%). but that may be what you were thinking about.

In fact, a soldier's ring often was crude in terms of detailed craftsmanship because the guy who made it was the same metal worker that made the raw weapons and tools (not the ornate pieces, he was a special artist) and used scrap metal to bang out the ring.

Julius Caeser's X legion may have been the first (not 100%) they wore rings with a bull on them, it was their symbol. Centaurians (generals) wore rings with their individual stamp or symbol because that's how they signed work orders and such, by stamping hot wax with their ring which was a reverse image.

The JC X Legion were disbanded after his assasination and later recalled by his step son Augustus when he took power. For the new and improved X Legion, rings typically did not have a bull but a letter ten or X on it either on the face, or on the sides. They were not as tight and "separatist" as the original X legion and so they got rings made when they could how they could, it was not part of the uniform (so to speak) as it was under JC. So they are not as uniform.

I am a bit of a history Nut, especially Roman History.

And YES damonx, it does look fake in the photo, I assure you it is bronze and authentic, the sources check out 100%.

Bronze. During the era Gold and Silver could only legally be worn by aristocrats.

Hopefully this is you, because it's the same exact ring.

And if that is you, I'm sure that place knows the difference between a $2,000 ring and one they can list buy it now for $35.

Yes, I actually was emailing the guy before I knew he used ebay. I came accross his ebay store and emailed him with questions. immediately took top bid on that ring and another one as well. Like I said, he's a bulk dealer. he put's the value at $100. I have since had offers from two collectors whom I contacted with photos to see if it were real, and the highest offer was 2800. It is all in what they know about the history of the ring. i learned alot from one of the collectors i spoke to about this particular ring that the seller doesn't know.

I highly recommend this particular seller. He has some real Gems that he is not willing to do the research to find, he's happy with his $30-$65.

Also If you can grab a Key Ring for under $100 between size 7-10 you will steal it. But it's all relevant. To someone who knows about the markings and can identify certain markings to date items they are worth more. To another guy it's a bronze roman soldier's ring. To some who know the story, it's a whole lot more...

I'm watching a few other items, now everyone on this fuckin board is going to be driving the bids up...thanks for outing me
