I know that, but what statutory damages did you incur for not being able to login to your ePassporte account?

elron 08-03-2006 04:46 PM

it's not the first thread i see about epass playing with their customer's money.
stay away from such guys .

When I asked about it I was told your account were terminated and you need to contact Account Verification if you had any questions.
(17:07:41) KK: This is really special. You people suck.
(17:08:18) KK: Why dont you ask someone who knows about the situation and tell me? I am in no mood to play games sending e-mails back and forth to the "appeals department" like is done with PayPal.
(17:09:29) Epass: I have been told you need to contact [email protected] since they won't tell me, I can say whats the problem is.
I asked you to CC me so I can make sure you get an answer quickly.
(17:09:51) KK: They wont tell you, huh?
(17:09:57) KK: What a load of crap.
(17:10:12) KK: You do still work there, dont you?
(17:10:30) Epass: Yes I do.
(17:11:00) KK: So then why is it that you dont have access to any information?
(17:12:17) Epass: I don't have access to the system since I work remotely.
I just do what I am being told and I was told you needed to contact [email protected]
(17:13:22) KK: You obviously have someone who handles you at the main office, that you go to when you have questions or need access to something, right? Why not ask them?
(17:13:57) Epass: I did.
I asked why your account were blocked then they told me you needed to contact [email protected]
(17:15:10) KK: Fine. You all want to dick around with this. Give me your boss's phone number.
(17:15:26) KK: He might not listen to you, but he wont be able to help but listen to me.
(17:17:36) Epass: I don't have one.
Like I said I was told you needed to email [email protected] they are the ones that decided to close your account.
The owner of the company is [email protected] and if you email me anything you want me to forward please do so.
(17:24:06) KK: Yes, let him know: that legal action I mentioned. Its coming.
(17:24:14) Epass: ok
(17:25:00) KK: I have had it with you people. Its a shame I am not an attorney. I can only represent my intrests in Court. But if I were admitted to the bar, I would bring this as a class action.

Anyone remember [email protected]? Same damn thing.

A honest working rep. want to help you, and this is how you talk to him? Are you 16 years old or just retarded? You have no place in this business (you are aware its a business - right?) and I hope Epass permanently closes your account. They have a 24/7 free phone line + a supportmail they answer fast. What in Gods name make you think posting on a webmaster board with ridiculous claims would help your current situation?

That epass rep actually seemed patient and helped you as much as he could despite your juvenile tact. Judging by your gfy posts and now the way you've acted in this thread, I think I should take you to court and make you prove to all of us you are over 18.

The ePass rep is giving me a line of BS. I am supposed to be polite and cordial when confronted with such BS? Respect is earned, not given. I dont feel a constant need to be polite to everyone I encounter espically when I know full good and well they are blowing smoke up my ass.

But defending your proposed lawsuit would be fun. Please file it. I'll even come down and pickup the summons to save you the expense of the process server.

hmmm... so let's just look at the conversation between you (minusonebit) and the ePassporte representative. i'm not sure if you're referring to Keyser Soze & talking to him via ICQ or if you actually called customer service - but either way, let's review (seems like the former):

Quote:

(17:04:22) KK: Hey, why the hell is my account suspended?
...that's a nice & polite intro.

Quote:

(17:05:39) Epass: Your account have been terminated please contact [email protected] for further questions, please CC me [email protected] and I will make sure you get an answer asap.
so lemme get this straight, you happened to check your account, initiated conversation online with keyser soze with a comment like the one above?

and what did keyser do? he gave you the email address to contact and asked you to CC: him so he can get you answers ASAP. yeah, gosh, what a jerk. :eyecrazy

Quote:

(17:06:26) KK: Why dont you give me a straight forward answer?
what wasn't straightforward from the very first thing he said to you? he told you who to contact, and to copy him in on the email so he could contact your more quickly possibly than CS. keyser is a really nice guy, always above and beyond the call of duty.

Quote:

(17:15:26) KK: He might not listen to you, but he wont be able to help but listen to me.
i don't know about anyone else but this sounds like a threat of some sort, implying that "keyser soze" (the board personality) has a boss that will listen to KK's muscling tactics. more power to you if *that* works, KK.

Quote:

(17:24:06) KK: Yes, let him know: that legal action I mentioned. Its coming.

more threats.

bottom line is, ePassporte is not a bank, we're not stealing your money or keeping it for ourselves - when we freeze accounts associated with fraudulent behavior - it's to protect *your* money. people seem to forget that ePassporte is not a bank, like the one you walk into with your ID, credit cards, SSN, etc. (assuming you're in the US) and they eventually give you a bank account - they are also FDIC insured. if someone got your password they could wipe oiut your ePassporte account pretty fast (although not your s since it has no money in it.)

ePassporte lets you sign up online and hold your money in an easily accessible place. i'm sorry that the internet is *also* filled with scammers, but if ePassporte suspects fraud wouldn't you rather they pause your account and look into it first? :2 cents:

If thats why you closed the account, then why didnt you notify me of it via e-mail or any other way? I didnt even know about it until I decided to check. Yet another example of ePassporte's wonderful service.

there will always be "some" people with no problems, that doesnt make it any better for people with problems..:2 cents:

Because i keep hearing the same problems over and over again with epassporte i cant help but think, either someone is missing something over there or they just dont seem to care.

I love epassporte , great idea , great product , but poor support and paypal-like problems and seemingly unable to listen to customers ( customer support seems to have improved since you and keyzer got on board :thumbsup ).

Maybe you can do me a favour and pass along a suggestion to your boss..

It woiuld be really really really really cool if we could go back more than one month of transactions.. I have lots of credit cards , all with online services , they all have complete transaction history available, some people may not need it but im sure they wont be upset about having "more" features , and it sure would help out your customers a ton.

I'd rather they followed the policy of "Innocent until proven guilty". If my bank suspected my account was linked to fraud, they would contact me immediately. They would then close my account and issue me a new one until their investigation was complete. They would not freeze my assets without notification unless they had hard proof that I had committed fraud.

ePassporte managed to make itself into an extremely popular form on payment in our industry. Many people, especially those outside the US, use it to receive a large portion of their payments from affiliate programs. It's convenient to do so because it avoids the hassle, fees and time associated with paper cheques. These are benefits that ePassporte touted to us. As such, most people use their ePassporte account as their bank account. Though it may not be an actual bank account, ePassporte essentially wants us to use it as one.

Every week, there is yet another post on this board about ePassporte locking up accounts because they may have been associated with fraud, thus inconveniencing fellow webmasters who are basically denied access to their pay checks. And with every such post comes the standard reply "We're doing this to protect you". If our protection was your main goal, you'd immediately open up a new ePassporte account for the user in question and issue a new card. This is what Visa and Mastercard do.

Essentially, it seems like your company wants us to use our ePassporte account as a bank account only when it suits your needs, not ours. Seems like to best protect our accounts, us users should withdraw out funds immediately... or better yet, not use ePassporte at all.

I dont understand why people dont use paypal , if your doing graphics work or selling your sig. Thats not adult as long as its not [email protected],there is nothing adult about a simple business transaction. As soon as the money comes in take it out, all these things are not banks they are not insured. I never leave more than twenty bucks in my paypal account.

i use paypal for everything, no sponsor offers paypal, so i don't have to worry about being closed, and another word of advice, if someone sends you a payment or something and the title/message is borderline, deny it... you won't get cought by paypal, because that shows you're not wanting anything "adult" in it... even though you are

b) you were born yesterday, a nobody, board spamming, trolling sig whore, probably underaged, so STFU

That above all is why EP needs competition.

I get very bugged about how their so-called security concerns are more and more translating into inconvenience and what some might see as invasion of privacy, without adding much if any security at all. Yet they still won't use the measures commonly used by banks and the like to ensure real security.

And recently my card was up for renewal, they charged me, it didn't arrive on time. That could have been the fault of USPS, not EP at all and KS dealt with getting me a replacement quickly, so fine. But what I discovered was that when they issued the new card and set it up with a pin which would need activation, doing that re-set the pin on the existing card too, 2+ weeks ahead of its expiry. Which I found out when I tried to use an ATM...

So I come back home, reactivate the old card and go back out again, get my cash. Not a big deal, but typical of the lack of attention to detail that they can get away with right now. And a note about that was simply ignored, so I don't imagine their system is going to change any time soon, even though it obviously shouldn't be set up that way.

Michael O 08-05-2006 08:53 AM

I belelive minusonebit heard from Chris M by now why his account were terminated, he must be OK with the reason otherwise he would have posted about it I am sure.

I've been with ePassporte 9-10 months now, I suggest everyone verify their accounts most times an account is blocked it could have been prevented if the account had been verified.

Smokey and jayeff the two issue you describe (Statement, pin) unfortunately we are limited by the issuing bank, they don't give more than 30 days statement, thats why we sent out statements on request from card holders, if it was possible we would show a complete statement history.
Jayeff same goes with the pin code being reset.

We are working hard to get the issuing bank to improve these issues.

A) Epassporte isn't a US based company. Good luck suing an international entity (or ANYONE for that matter) over $39. (talk about cost effective)
B) Maybe you should read the TOS you agreed to when you signed up before spouting that you're going to sue. Epass would kick you to the curb in a lawsuit if it came to that even if they WERE US based.

No, Keyser, I havent heard. But you obviously seem to know why, judging by the little stab you just took. Also, so much for your promise to get me a fast response if I CCd you on it, which I did. Or are you gonna claim that I edited the ICQ log and put those words in your mouth?

No one has responded to the e-mail I sent yesterday and CCd both you and Tassy on. I do have a life and as much as this pisses me off, I am not sitting here all day hitting refresh on my webmail to see if you people have finally gotten off your asses and sent a response.

ePassporte uses "security measures" the same way George Bush does. Alot of companies do this. How about ePassporte worries about running the fucking company, and *I'll* worry about the security of my fucking account. I am in the best position to safeguard my account of anyone.

The drama is in the lawsuit, which WILL be filed if they dont fix this PDFQ.

I normally dont use credit cards when I travel, I prefer cash and/or travelers checks. Too many experinces with incompetence where merchants way over auth a card for no reason and put me in a bind.

No one has responded to the e-mail I sent yesterday and CCd both you and Tassy on. I do have a life and as much as this pisses me off, I am not sitting here all day hitting refresh on my webmail to see if you people have finally gotten off your asses and sent a response.

BTW, here was the e-mail, in case you didnt get it:

Why is my account suspended?

Like I already told you I don't know.
Chris Mallick is the owner of the company and I was told he would email you regarding this, that is the information I have.
You emailed us Friday at noon and since Internext is on and its the weekend that might be the reason you haven't received a response.

You're right, I have not yet released any projects nor do I represent any big name company on here. And what is it that you do? And just in case you actually DO have something remarkable to your credit here, good for you. But remember you started out with nothing too at one point and built what you have now, just as I am doing. I really like you people who are big shots now and forget that you once started as a nobody. But not to worry, you can lose it all real quick and likely will if you take such attitudes.

Yes, thats what the United States has become. And how is what I put there any less mature than some of the things put in that box. I think you're the troll.

You know, out of every 1000 customers who threatens a lawsuit, there is that one that will.

And since when is $39 major drama? lmfao

They'll turn you off, make every attempt to contact you, and then issue you a new card ASAP. I worked for Visa. I personally arranged for cards to be sent to cruise ships docked in the Mediterranean and helicoptered out to the Yukon when we had suspected fraud on a customer's account.

Yeah, but, uhm, he hasnt. Another small item on the long, long list of ePassporte's broken promises and shortcommings in dealing with my account.

I do have to hand it to you all, you all really have managed to snowball this board and the industry as a whole. You all have managed to get a majority of this industry to think that ePassporte provides good service. Either they dont know what good service really is because they have never had it or they are just too ignorant to care.

That I could belive. But thats the difference between ePassporte and Visa. One company cares about its customers and desires to preserve a relationship based on mutal satisfaction that allows one party to enjoy the services of the other in exchange for a fee whereas the other company wants to bend you over a barrel or leave you hanging at any change it can get.

Dosent she have a website? Filing fees are pretty hefty these days and I am willing to bet that you could buy a month long membership for much less... would last longer too.

I have never had the pleasure of suing a neighbor yet. They usually leave me alone. Then again... the nearest one is quite a ways... just how I like it.
