So Mac/Apple computers are so much more secure... right?
Apple fixes 26 Mac OS flaws
http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1009_22-6...ml?tag=nl.e550 Seems like only the start to me. The only thing that made them more secure in the past was that it wasn't worth a hackers time to go after it, because not enough people used it. It had nothing to do with security levels. |

No, they are really not any more secure, just like Firefox is really no more secure than Internet Explorer. It's all about terms of usage -- if 90% of people used Firefox and 10% of people used Internet Explorer it would be the exact opposite of what people are clamoring now about FF. I for one *love* FF because it suites my needs very well... the new I.E. looks promising but I still don't like how it feels, so for now FF for life.
Anyways, if the majority of computer users were using Apple OS, you would see just as many virus attacks, just as many exploits, and just as many flaws as Windows users report. Speaking of Windows flaws.... ![]() ![]()

For 90% of webmasters and system admins it's not much of a big deal to use one or the other because they fly below the radar and it would be dumb luck for them to be hit. I can say that I get more attacks on my *nix servers through apache/php/sql than any of my windows boxes on IIS/ASP/MSsql.

hmm, here's what I know about Macs and PCs.
I used PCs for about ten years. I am a heavy computer user. With my pcs, I had crashes every couple days AT BEST, they slowed down consistently, popups/spyware was insane, I got viruses occasionally despite having the best virus protection and firewalls, and every year or two, I had to replace my PC, because they had become so slow and shitty. About 3 years ago I bought a powermac G5. I have yet to see a popup window. I have yet to see spyware. My computer has never crashed. It's basically been on for three years strait, minus vacations. It is just as fast as it was the day I got it. I have not upgraded anything. It is still nearly top of the line. I have not done any maintenance. I have never used virus protection or firewalls. I have beaten the hell out of this thing, and it still works like new. I have literally saved dozens if not hundreds of hours not dealing with computer problems. Oh yeah, and I can run every windows program, and windows itself. Best $8,000 I've ever spent in my life, BY FAR. So, basically, keep finding stupid, insignificant articles like that, to make yourself feel less stupid for being stuck on a cheap PC. I'll sit here laughing the next time you have to upgrade. Quote:
That excuse doesn't hold up. Out of all the hackers, all the viruses, you're telling me not ONE of these guys has decided to go after Macs? Even after Mac users consistently act arrogant about how safe they are? You have to be kidding me. These "script kiddies" or whatever the fuck would love to take down these supercilious mac owners. They've tried, and failed. Just admit it dude. |

I commented on this bullshit article earllier. I won't bother going into depth again, but suffice it to say that you if believe that shit without knowing what you are talking about (which you don't, otherwise you'd not have posted it), you should stick with your windows machine.

All I know is that while our PCs in the office constantly crash and need drive replacements, our Macs run perfectly, every day.

But notabook, a couple years from now, when your brand new PC is old, slow, and useless, I'll still be using the mac I bought three years ago, and it will still run like new.
That's what fucking sucks about windows. I've been there, it was hard for me to switch too, I used to make fun of mac users. But do it man, next time you need a computer, just do it. It will hurt your ego at first, but in the long run, you will be glad you did. And, I DO have sex with my mac. That's how good they are. ![]() |

Your mac will run like new? I guess, about as well as my old 486dx 25mhz puter (was an old Packard bell I gutted and ?souped? it up LOL). My grandmother is still using that computer? bet she?s playing solitaire on it right now lmao). Computer technology is supposed to become obsolete in around three years, with periods of slight upgrades in-between. Of all the computers I?ve put together, only one stopped functioning completely. Was my favorite computer too =( An Athlon T-bird 1.4ghz? God I loved that computer more than my right hand ;( I don?t really make fun of macs or mac users. If they work for ya, go for it. I would much rather use something that?s incredibly easy to upgrade, parts are easily affordable and doesn?t make me feel like a queer when I stare at it (ok, that was making fun of macs? I would have sex with my pc dude? but I can?t get the fleshlight to stay in the fucking drive bays, I?ve tried it and it just wont stay. Going to have to custom build a housing unit for it then I?ll be able to fuck my computer all day long :laughing :laughing :laughing

I have had no crash problems with XP for 9 months. I run several external hard drives. But mainly Seagate and Hitachi since they were the first with the 500GB hard drive.
I have 5 External Hard Drives and 3 Internal Hard Drives Giving me almost 2.5 Terrabytes of disk space. To me its like Ford.... Dodge.... Chevy.... Remember Guys... NOTHING IS HACK PROOF. NOTHING. There is always a backdoor somewhere. |

My powerpc is three years old, no upgrades, and it runs like the day I opened the box. That's my point here. No errors. No popups. No spyware. Not ONE single freeze up, in three years, of heavy daily usage. And it's just as fast and runs just as smoothly as it did on day one. That's the difference. This same powermac will probably still be just as good in ANOTHER 2-3 years. Can you even imagine that? A SIX year old PC. lol. If you'd like to focus your time on your business rather than worrying about upgrading your computer, your computer crashing, etc etc etc, macs are the only way to go. |

I haven?t had my computer have an windows error message in six months =\ As long as you keep it updated you really shouldn?t have any issues. Badly written software for the PC sure, I?ll occasionally have a program crash or two but that?s hardly the OS?s fault. This computer is around? uh? two years old now? I think, it?s a P4 3.0Ghz, I really don?t remember when I bought it, was my first nearly-all aluminum case (which really helped on heat dissipation I might add). It?s running about the same more or less than the day I bought it. I haven?t had to upgrade it yet (because they introduced PCI-Exp, and this mobo was like the last gen of AGP, I can?t get that much better of a video card). It?ll still be as ?fast? as it is in three years as it is now, just as my 486dx PC is as ?fast? as it was the day I bought it. The only thing it needs to keep it running ?fast? is an occasionally defrag, usually once every three months or so. Start it before you go to sleep and you?ll notice no downtime. Could this PC stand for some improving? A bit. Granted, the chip only has hyperthreading but if I had a newer video card than this old jalopy than it would be able to run or play just about anything I threw at it (granted at a lower resolution). I could a more recent AGP video card available and it would once again put me ?back in the game? so to speak for around $200 to $250.00? which is completely reasonable imo to make your computer up-to-par to the lower end new computers out there. Regardless, I personally go through computers about once every three years, and I usually spend around $1200.00 on the hardware with usually ONE sub-$200 upgrade in the future. After I got to the point that I got proficient when using PC?s, I stopped having any problems. As long as you buy quality hardware and not the bottom-of-the-bin shit your not going to have ?PC nightmares?. It?s true you?ll get the occasional virus or Trojan attempt; that?s what you?re A/V and Firewalls are for. As for spyware? hmm? I did get one bad case of spyware once but a quick download of Spybot + a free trial of Webroot took care if it within 10 minutes. If I had taken a precaution beforehand I wouldn?t even have to worry about that. If a PC user would spend around 3 hours getting the necessary software to secure his or her PC, you would see the number of incidents occurring drop by half or more. It?s just common sense! Would you run your car without making sure it had oil in it? I don?t know why people just can?t spend a little time making their computer fairly secure. Instead they would rather risk loosing data or risking having to do a format to fix some problem that could have been prevented with just a few hours of precaution? *sighs* Oh well. To each his own! To quote Al Gore: ?I like head cheese?.

I get Mac OS updates on a daily basis, my computer just tells me there is an update. When is the last time your Windows comp told you there was an update?
I'd rather have a computer that is constantly finding and fixing problems on a daily basis then one that just sits there hoping no one is noticing how crappy it is. |

We used to use mostly PC's and a top-end Mac, but only because we had to (Mac) because the media would only accept files based on Mac software. Now that has changed and printers and media outlets all accept PDF'S, I couldn't get out of mac's and the expensive software fast enough. For a fraction of the price, I run PC's that are blindingly fast compared to macshit. If it fucks up, which is occassionally, I fuck it off and get another blindingly fast computer and all for chicken shit. Can't you dumb mac fuckers work it out - The hard-drives, monitors, etc, etc, etc. are all PC shit, just rebranded to con you fuckers into thinking you are getting better shit. Go into any News limited pre-press room and what do you see - Wall-to-wall pc's. When I see a Mac user, I see a dumb-nut ready to try and justify his madness and no, we don't have virus problems. What, with good anti-virus software available, spend the money and you won't have a problem. Lyn

I also have an office of 10+ computers and am PC all the way after working in a predominantly Mac based office where I could set my watch to the restart sound of the crashing macs and lecturing a room of crashing macs. I wouldn't buy 10+ machines if it wasn't a good business decision from experience.. lone mac nerds can salivate over their new laptop or whatever as a geek chic purchase (much as i did when i got my kick ass dell) but when it comes to actually running a business and a whole office... well.. theres really no point going the mac route unless maybe you're doing sound engineering or have been caught up in the advertising or have a driving need to think different like the multinational corporation's ads tell you to.

No, he'll have to upgrade 6 times for every one time I have to upgrade. You're actually saying that a product lasting is a bad thing? Yeah, I'd rather have to buy something every year so it will be shinny. lmfao, way to think things through. It means more time I get to spend working on my business, instead of wasting time dealing with failing hardware. I don't care what my computer looks like (although my big plasma mac monitor is pimped), I care about how many headaches it causes me. Macs = no headaches PC = regular headaches It's pretty simple the way I see it. Although I realize a lot of you who could never afford a good mac will continue making BS excuses about why PCs don't suck. The funny thing is, nearly every mac owner is very familiar with windows. You can't BS us, we know the drill. |

Can't read, too drunk to read (currently true), or, perhaps, don't feel like reading seven paragraphs when in browsing I see phrases like "dumb-nut" or "dumb mac fuckers". Have fun with your next crash, your next spyware, your next upgrade. I'll be right here, enjoying my drink, with a perfect computer that works for 3+ years without any errors and without any maintanance. I bet I could piss on this machine, take a dump on the monitor, and when I wake up, it will have cleaned itself up and made me a cup of coffee. |

The funny thing is...
...all windows users say "as long as you have the right anti-virus/anti-spy ware apps, you'll be fine" errr... that's the point. Mac users don't need anti-virus software. I'm not a mac user either. I run a stripped winxp pc (fat content removed), which is BLINDINGLY quick, even at 1GB ram and a 3.0Ghz P4. But. I would still prefer having a powermac. Can't wait for the new ones to come out with the conroe's in them. Why? Because at least the OS I'm using is optimized to utilize the improvements of the chip(s). Whereas when Vista comes out, MS actually said it won't be natively optimized to run dual core processors. So while Mac's OS is all set and ready to run 8 cores, Vista will weigh in at 2GB and not even be optimized to run 2? Why the fuck did I upgrade my hardware for then? Why buy conroe's if you can't use them to their fullest? Why spend hundreds of dollars on an OS that is as slow as the last version, and can't even maximize your hardware? Sounds like A-B-C to me. Dunno about you guys. I'd rather have a poofta-mac at home knowing that I'm really making the most of out the money I spent on the hardware, and actually working, rather than spending 2 hours everyday trolling the net looking for that beta service pack, and then waiting another 3-4 hours total due to load times, thanks to all the memory being sapped by zone alarm, which is the ONLY way to go if you want security on a windows-based system. Suck it up guys. Windows is beaten. Don't hate something just because you can't afford it. That's like me hating Ferrari's.

What the fuck, my mac just froze and I had to reboot.
hahaha, just kidding. Keep talking about your "idiot tax". In my eyes, time=money. Every time you have to reboot, upgrade your virus software, close a popup, etc etc, that's YOU paying idiot tax. I'd rather pay more up front and not have to waste time. |
