Dozens of websites regarding this.
Paypal has the ability to lock accounts whenever they want, sometimes the person with the paypal did something wrong, other times they did nothing at all.
Main reason I've never opened an account with them.

main reason why i have mixed feelings about them. the idea is great, the site is clean, and their API is being developed pretty cool. but what's the point if all the money you collect gets frozen? if some governing body would watch over that, they'd be the best.

That's the reason why I never keep any money in my paypal account. I think right now there is about $5 in it. I only use PayPal to pay one-time fees. It's foolish leaving large sums of money in it.

I've had an account with them since they started a few years ago. I've conducted over 1000 transactions and not ONCE have I had a single problem. A company isn't going to lock your account for just having money in it. Think about it. B40, give us some details. Tell us why YOU think your account is locked.

Details?

My a/c has been restricted twice now.

FIRST TIME:

My cc was used for fraud, some internet place was making charges on it and I didn't change it from my PP info, so when I tried using PayPal to buy something but didn't have enough funds in my account, they tried charging my cc, of course it was cancelled...but since the charge didn't go through and the card was cancelled they restricted my account.

I have no problems with this, it protects the sellers from cc fraud, however, after I faxed in the documentation (letter from VISA saying my card was used in fraud, driver's license, and current cc statment) it took them about 3 weeks or 15 business days to unrestrict my account. While the automatic email they send out after they receive your fax states the review process takes 3-5 days. I guess they're swamped with all the different a/c restriction cases.

SECOND TIME:

My a/c is restricted and I have no idea why. I call them up and they said somebody was fucking with it or something. No transactions were placed though, but they got me to change my password, and questions. I was happy with this, it helps protect against fraud, and it only took 2 days, although I'm sure it would of taken a lot longer had I not called them twice.

If you read some of the horror stories on www.paypalwarning.com it makes you think twice.

You can still receive payments, just can't send money.

I've dealt with them for nearly a year.

Had our account blocked twice. Once because some stupid woman cancelled an order and re-ordered. The second time, even they are not sure why it was blocked. It took them 24 hours to sort them out. While they were doing it I stopped confirming the sales.

They have a ceiling to the size of purchase way over anyone else we've look at. A lot of companies told us $250, get real. We need more than that, we are B to B.

We can deduct as much as we like when we like from our account. And because they are the most careful of all the CC processors we know the payment is solid.

And because of that their rates are the best. Again some quoted 15% and 10% held back for 6 months. Don't need partners like that. That's one of the reasons we sell our quality for the price we do. Our CC processor is not a sleeping partner.

Unless you're getting huge deposits it doesn't make sense to because of the fees they charge.

I agree that I take my funds out immediately. There not FDC insured are they?? I trust the banks more than a new company like this. But I'm sure eventually
they will get FDC approved and become a financial powerhouse.
Its just a faster way to transfer money too!
Plus I haven't had any problems with them either!

PayPal was insured as far as last year by the FDIC. Haven't checked lately.
