I agree with the top ten sites being reviewed by the judges idea.

Going to be tough competion nonetheless.
There is some very complex graphic work and intracate designs to choose from. Our industry sure does hold some gems of talent!

I got through 5 sites, the 6th has been loading forever (Im on a DSL line). Out of the 5 tours, 4 of them had broken links all over the place... I give up. I didn't pace my week right so I didn't have a chance to submit my site, but to everyone that did - Good luck!

Am I the only person who thinks the Mafia site violated the rules and should be disqualified?

I gave it a #1 - lowest score I gave any site.

Why?

mafia site does kick ass, but would have been better for snow to do a site that isnt mafia because people will simply vote because to ass suck, but suppose we will never know if that design would have done good on its own merits.

First time I went thru and voted half the sites were 404. Tried to view now with IE and it said I already voted. So I opened up NS and can view it right. Just a thought though, there's too much room for cheating.

It may be anyone (not really) but how can you say for certain who did it? Snow might have given content to someone to do it.

A couple issues for the AssClowns up in the cheap seats...

1. Snow DID NOT design that site, as far as I know snow hires out all of his graphic design work.

2. No rules were broken as far as the mafiaporn site because the client likes the logo and wanted to keep it for brand recognition. Happens sometimes when you do real design work. And the design in the contest was created this week as well.

I can also assure you that the mafiaporn site that is on mafiaporn.com and the one in the contest are not created by the same person.

Snow is not a designer, he's a program owner. Nor is Snow entered in the contest.

the logo was used though, so thats an automatic disqualification

I was trying to be as fair as possible and felt a rule was broken. It doesn't matter, I voted once and I have nothing more to add about that.

Apart from this, well done on all the designs. Wish I had the skill to create such wonderful work.

ahhhhh....who cares anyway?!? The site has a dynamite layout but very little substance. If it survives the judges scrutiny, eyebrows might be raised. But it is a phenominal layout...very atractive.

I spoke with Snow on ICQ about this, and it is a brand new site. Not a redesign. It will be ADDED to Snow's program, not replacing the old site.

Interesting, so if Windows Hires you and says do our site and use our CORPORATE IDENTITY then since you are the new designer you HAVE to tell them no because you didn't create the logo?

I honestly didnt think we could use a tour that we were being paid for, I thought this was a fresh design type of thing.

Thats my only input on that.

I put off a job or two to squeeze this tour in, I wish I would have known we could use a current clients work as the entrance piece.

I ran mine through a tool to get the final weight of the page, lol, not that it matters cuz my score is WAY down.

If they do this regularly, yearly or whatever, at least I can hope I'll improve for next time :)

Who is ENFORCING the rules?!? You would think that with the prizes being offered there would be no funny business...if someone wasn't happy it could be ugly! The legalities would keep me from ever running a contest with prizes like this. There would have to be verifiable complete impartiality or, like I said, it could be horribly ugly when it came time to disburse prizes.

As for me...I did this 'cuz I wanted something new in my portfolio :winkwink: Everyone did a fantastic job...there's some real showpieces posted there :thumbsup

its natural to suspect that some designers could be cheating on this contest. i'd suggest logging ip addresses rather that just relying on cookies.

as for a few of the designs... well, its blatantly obvious who designed them. there is one amazing unique site in there though... the only one that i gave a 9 to (my highest rating)

There were some good designs, but to pick purely on design is not really enough.

There are tons of big name sites out there with tons of content, the best designs etc etc that convert at 1:3000

Simple effective designs that sell are as important as all the glitz and polish that does not sell

Anyway, I looked at all the sites once and then went back and voted

some of the sites I gave 2,3,4 points the better ones I gave 4,5,6 I think one got a seven, and one got a ten (and it wasn't mafia porn -although a nice loooking graphics package)

just wanted to Announce Once Voting is complete all particpants other than the top 3 will receice a free penis ruler!

The "stolen" work was the tutorial site's design...not the tutorials.

the lack of imagination and personality of some designs is incredible.....all with the same color shemes and stars sparkling...
over retouched pics etc....
i know who i will hire for my paysites designs (well i will know when the names will be released)

The voting places a cookie on your computer so it keeps track of what sites you have voted on. If you recieve an error like I did, many many times, just close the browser and click the link to start voting again. So even if it errors every time you vote and it tries to take you to the next design you will eventually get through them all.

well now I have 404s.
