Water vs Coke

WATER

75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

COKE

In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.

To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid cleans out the stains. Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

Complete bullshit. Not a single state does this nor any highway patrol. Water is much cheaper and does a better job.

Again total bullshit. The amount of acid in coke will barely soften a piece of ground beef let alone disolve a steak with bone. Think about it for a second it only has a fraction of the acid of something weak like lemon juice.

Suppose you could but why. Again the acid content is way to low, and coke also stains.

This works, though it is more to do with the foil than the coke. Seems any liquid plus aluminum foil cleans off chrome.

Again no where near enough acid content and the bubble do not last long enough nor would stay in place to do a valid job.

Sure if you want a wet, sticky, and somewhat lubricated bolt.

Ok this is finally true. Numerous dishes can be made with coke.

If you belive that one and think it is the coke and not the detergent and agitation, then please revert to the crack pipe this thread interupted you from.

Now seeing all the coke myths, I am seriously also in doubt about the water ones. Would love to see the actual data.

Anyone who has worked in a Restaurant that uses soda wells, knows that Diet Coke syrup rots the lines 10 times faster than any of the others. Also if you get it on your skin, you need to wash it off or it will begin to burn. Keep in mind this is the highly concentrated syrup, not the Soda itself.

Lets not forget these too

FYI:

1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It's pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.

2. To carry Coca Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly Corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! Drink up! No joke. Think what coke and other soft drinks do to your teeth on a daily basis. A tooth will dissolve in a cup of coke in 24-48 hours.

Good gawd Ram, ya just pulling myths out yer ass?
Here is a break down of some PH levels.
Coke (classic): 2.5
Lemon Juice: 4.0
Vinegar: 4.0
Tonic Water: 4.0
Asprin: 5.0
Lemon Soap: 6.0

Now to make the proper adjustment we need to talk about phosphoric acid.
Classic coke is .055 percent phosphoric acid.
An Orange is 1.09 percent phosphoric acid.

Now go right ahead and place a nail, even a non stainless steel one in a class of coke and let it sit for four days. Fuck give it 30 and if you feel like it change the coke every day to keep it even more fresh. Most you will get is a rusty nail due to water content. I will put money on it.

Really? So does an orange truck have to do the same thing? Specially one that is holding concentrated orange juice?

Again why in the fuck would they? It would cost a great deal more than other cleaning solutions and be a great deal less effective.
P.S. drop a tooth in with that nail, money on that as well.
PPS. A small amount of water and some starch like bread or rice will do much more damage to a tooth.

appearantly you don't watch Mythbusters. They pretty much debunked most of this Coke "does this or that" crap. Yes it cleans chrome pretty good. No it does NOT dissolve meat.

It was on epsidoe 5 season 1

Classic coca-cola has a similar pH to lemon juice, which is around 2.5.

2.5 is very high acid strength!

(lower pH means stronger the acid)

I found all these facts here:
http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/acid.asp

You can relax now and keep on drinking Coke.

Most kids have done the school science experiment where you leave a nail in a glass of coke, it does indeed dissolve the nail... try it and see.

You know WATER will disolve a nail if you leave it in long enough.

TRUE
"Trucks carrying sodas often have to carry haz-mat warnings, but not because the spillage of Coke could be hazardous. The same would be true of beer, champagne, plain soda water, etc., because in all of those, the carbonation is kept in under pressure. You know what happens if a soda can bursts or the champagne cork blows off! Yes, there certainly could be danger."
