A new approach to protecting kids online.

Instead of trying to pass bullshit laws and restricting everyone else's rights, why not do the following:

Fine/send to jail parents who, because of their neglect allowed their children to see porn online and/or be lured away by child molestors.

There is a group of people pushing for a law in my state that would give parents a ticket if they were caught smoking in their car with a minor in it. This is the first time that I have heard of people wanting to penalize "parents" for causing harm to their children for not being responsible. A parent leaves a loaded gun in reach of a child, child gets it and shoots self, nothing happens to the parents, the parents sue the gun makers. lol. why isn't the parent locked up for neglect, stupidity, etc... they could have locked the gun up, not had it loaded, got a safty device on it. Same thing with internet porn / predators, million EASY fucking ways to prevent children from being exposed to porn or from being a victim of molestation, but parents are too irresponsible to protect their own children. They should be fined/arrested for their irresponsibility / neglect.

If Congress, Religious right really wants to protect children they need to start thinking about taking this approach. If a "parent" was held accountable for their actions by the govorment, they might think twice about being a better parent.

Agree 100%

But you should repost this in Spanish, so parents know what to tell their Nannies.

Well said. How about passing laws that fine parents when their kids get caught with drugs, alcohol, etc? I'm sick and fucking tired of this "it's too hard to watch my kids" nonsense. If that's the case, don't fucking have them. If I pulled half the shit I see kids get away with, I'd have had my ass beat and rightfully so.

i agree but a little harder to do in those situation because it is a lot harder to control their kids when their are not in their parents home. In the parents house the parents have 100% control. Fucking take the modem to work with them, the little bastards can't play online when no one is home to supervise. VERY EASY to protect kids online but our society is so fucked up to think of this approach, the easiest solution to the problem. Our society rewards parents for being irresponsible. The more kids they have the more govt benefits they get.

As much as I?m all about blaming the parent in 75% of the cases, what about the 25% of the cases when the parents have absolutely no control over the situations? Kids are very computer savvy these days, and it?s not like you have to be a genius to get around filtering software. A parent can only do so much to protect their child and sometimes it?s nearly impossible to do so. If a parent does his or her job by explaining to the kid the dangers that such risks entail (drug use, talking to online strangers, etc.) and maintains a decent watch on his child?s online activity, and the child still manages to fuck up, then I really don?t see why the parent should be held accountable. I guess they could install key loggers but then we get into the debate of how much rights, if any, should minors have.

bullshit.

1 kids dont use the computer unless parents are home.
2. computer is in family room or room with access to everyone, not behind closed doors.
3. parents periodically check on kid to see what he is doing online.
4. kids only use internet for educational purposes. they want to play game, play xbox, they want to talk to friends they use cell phone. I had to wait till i was 17/18 to drive, playing online unsupervised is worse then giving them the keys to your car and telling them to go take a joy ride.
5. install software for those times that they do a search for white house, lol and I wouldnt let them have email, too many assholes sending porn (nudity) in mass emails.

If you do that explain to me how they would be exposed to it.

Also a huge amount of education of the dangers of the internet.

Oh wait all that i mentioned is asking too much of parents, it is easier for them to ignor the problem and let the govt try to get ride of porn LOL. good luck trying.

Better solution: Require parents to have a licence to have kids in the first place. I guarantee, 80%+ of society's problems would be solved.

Bullshit?
1. Since when? What do you expect the parent to do, unrealistically take the computer with them to and from work? What about kids sneaking off in the middle of the night to get their WoW fix while everyone is bed? What about school?s computers? Friends? Library? Coffee shops?
2. See 1.
3. See my post
4. A lot of family?s use their computers for gaming and that shouldn?t change in the near future. It?s stupid to say they shouldn?t use a computer for gaming and to stick to an Xbox. Still supervise them and this is no different than playing Xbox live.
5. You can?t stop them from getting e-mail, far too many free services. Also the high school I went to now requires an e-mail address (of child, as well as parent) for school updates and report card info.

So again, 75% of kids can be successfully governed by their parents and kept to a minimum of exposure to the horrors of the internet. 25% probably are either (a) to unruly for their parents and instead of looking up porn will be too busy fucking getting stds and/or getting pregnant or (b) to smart for their parents and will successfully find ways around filtering software as well as getting on computers from other sources. I think a 75/25 estimate is pretty accurate.

It is just simply unrealistic to say that everything in the world is the parent?s fault, even though the majority clearly is. My parents were both computer illiterate and thankfully during my time porn we had was good old fashioned playboy magazines. Porn on the internet took ages to download (man? VIVO technology introduced a whole new generation to digital porn! 40 hours for 2 minutes of porn hahaha).

I hope you are not a parent but you do sound defensive like you are one.

1. You missed the part where i said when a child is away from the home the parent doesn't have control. If it happens at the school t he school should be liable, etc... When the parents leave or are sleeping why can't they password protect the computer there has to be software that would allow them to lock the computer from going online or at worst take the damn model with them when they go to bed. LEts say you have alcohol in your house and your kids keep drinking it, what do you do? get rid of it or lock it in a cabinet ? lock up the pc same thing.

4. dont get me started on games, most games are so violent that kids shouldnt be playing them anyway. If they kids want to play games online they should be supervised any way to make sure they are not playing anything too violent.

If a parent can not control with the kid does in their own home they need to go take lessons on how to be a parent. Any reason why they can't is a poor excuse.

The govt is basically throwing the responsibility of raising these kids back on us because their parents are either to lazy or too stupid to do a good job, or they simply just dont give a shit.

So fine them for that. You can be charged with neglect if you have a pool without a safety fence or cover or whatnot in my area. Same principal.
