I broke the cover on my old one and Im looking at newegg at the canon a620 for just a point and shoot basic camera. No clue if that helps at all, but newegg is good with their reviews at least to shop until somebody has some experienced advice for you. Good luck!

check out:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0509/05092901fuji_f11.asp oh, you want a cam where you can exchange lenses...that would require a D-SLR.... and wouldn't be cheap...by no means the best bang for your bucks would be a pentax DSLR like http://www.dpreview.com/news/0509/05092901fuji_f11.asp

Keep in mind that by buying a DSLR you have to keep buying lenses to get the most of you camera. That's not cheap. But with a Pentax camera, you can buy cheap lenses on ebay, because analogue lenses still work with digital SLRs from pentax. But if you just want to take pictures of your 17 month old, you're better off buying a compact camera. It's easier and faster to handle, and pictures look good "out of the box". With DSLRs you have to work on each picture to make it look good. You have to sharpen it, to add contrast and color etc..... High Quality compact digital cameras do take good pictures nowadays. If you don't plan on using it for professional photoshoots, I highly recommend getting a smaller cam. A compromise would be a "bridge" camera, a crossbread of DSLR and comapct...something semi-professionell. Sony DSC-R1 would be an example for such a camera. Still not as fast as DSLRs, but offers higher ISO, better picture quality and top-notch lens....
