I'd like look at the positive side of high fuel prices. Economic reality dictates that when oil is too expensive, it's alternatives become more attractive. Once there's enough critical mass and economies of scale, we MIGHT be on the road to less and less fossil fuel demand. If we choose correctly, we might be using cleaner, more renewable energy.

Uh... pay it? What the fuck do you expect fat ass Americans to do, WALK? Take public transportation? Invent their way out of a problem rather than starting a few more illegal wars for future oil reserves? What?

Very well said. Not to mention people will just consume less. More bikes, public transportation, and car pools.

i don't think the increase in fuel/oil price will bring down the cost of alternatives , it will send demand up , while the old thing of demand brings down price, we are now in a stage where money wins out , as long as ppl are willing to pay for alternatives prices will stay stable

you then have the other factor of alternatives still need oil to develop the product eg: it takes more resources to creat a solar panel then what you save

anyway getting back to the question , i don't use my car all that often , my other job at the radio station is just a short distance away so able to use a push bike to get to it , and there is a bus stop right across the road from me and shops too ,

Walking and public transportation dont work in most of the US you dumb fuck. Our states are a big as most countries. Most couldn't even get to work in less than an hour by bus.

there was a show on Top Gear (Discovery Channel carried it for a couple of months) and the guy had a Volvo diesel V8, i think it was. someone told him the thing could go either 600 or 800 miles on a tank of gas... i'm leaning more towards 800... it's been a while since i've seen the episode. so he tested it. drove the car without heat, without the cruise control and did not accelerate fast any so as not to waste fuel, and sure enough... he made it from beginning to end (once again, i think it was 800 miles.. but i cannot remember), on one tank of fuel! it was quite impressive. and it was indeed a V8 engine! i do remember that much correctly.

Maybe she makes a lot and its worth it, but most people will not do that because its simply not worth it. Also, that's NYC. It's a huge city with tons of public transportation. Here we only have regular buses and people can easily work 30-45 minutes away by car. That means the bus ride is ridiculously long.

3 hours in and 3 hours out. That is insane. That means you probably have no life if you have a regular work schedule.

It wont make any difference, no one will drive less, or use less fuel. In the UK a gallon is nearly $7. It doesnt make any differnce to anyone, everyone drives just the same.

It's so entertaining reading what this. Go do some research on what happened back in the 1973.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...73&btnG=Search

If the Arabs really flex their muscles the world will have to decide. Do we let the Israelis keep the land they occupied after WW11 to grow their oranges or do we keep the oil flowing or do we invade the entire Middle East and lose hundreds of people a day.

Bottom line is the oil belongs to the people sitting on the land it's in.
