best perl editor? (besides notepad/wordpad)

what's the best perl editor (besides notepad/wordpad). i want something color-coding.

i'm working on a windows system and i upload my code to an apache/linux system to run. right now i'm using notepad (because copy and pasting text into wordpad is a pain in the ass becuase it keeps the font, font size, and color).

so, any suggestions?

thx,

ultraedit has 30 day trial, itīs dirt cheap and worth the money
if you donīt like vi, pico spare yourself the time to look at joe.
Itīs another unix editor.

VI rocks, you just have to know how to use it

Notepad sucks canīt handle long files, has no decent ident
functions and adds ^m characters as end of line line characters.

Go buy ultraedit you canīt go wrong with that!

I have been using this free program editor for years.
It loads as fast as notepad but does alot more. No ads -100% free

The only goofy thing is that it doesnt remember the last folder you were in so I had to put a shortcut to it in the "send to" folder.

UltraEdit.com works for me!

I use it to edit all sorts of code and text files daily, including Perl.

let me reiterate what i want:

i want a perl code / text file editor, NOT just a text file editor. i want to see my perl code color-coding (greyed-out comments, highlighted commands, etc.)

this looks good except for no code color-coding (for PERL anyway).

but block indented and unlimited undo/redo capability... nice.

Seriously, UltraEdit is probably what your looking for. Besides being a text editor it's also a powerful programmers editor...

http://www.ultraedit.com/products/features.html#prog
Syntax highlighting - "Pre-configured for C/C++, VB, HTML, Java, and Perl"

Do most of my coding in vim (essentially vi). When I need/want some sort of syntax highlighting for windows I use dzsoft's perl editor (dzsoft.com). It works rather nicely, as they have a color pre-set for Delphi's "twilight" color scheme I used when I actually coded delphi.

You can set colors, etc. for any document class you like. Here's a screen shot of the prefs section for doing that, with the Perl section opened up:

The website has a huge list of syntax definitions you can download, which is where I got the Perl one from, but you can also make your own (or easily alter the downloaded ones).

I love Textpad.

Ultraedit is really the answer. It will highlight your code and different syntaxes.

Ultraedit vs Textpad

Who will emerge victorious?

Who will reign supreme over Perl coding?

HQ,

No, that's the clip library for Perl. You want to go to the page with Syntax Definitions, here: http://www.textpad.com/add-ons/syna2g.html

Go to the N-T section and scroll down until you see the Perl stuff. There are actually several Perl definition files there so I just grabbed the newest one they had. There are instructions on the download page for how to install them into the program.
