How is living in the Phillipines?

Is it comparable to Thailand in costs and hotties and food and toys?

I'm living out here right now. It's great!

Havent gone to thailand yet, but I hear the costs are similar. There are some sexy broads out here for sure.

toys? I don't know. Electronics are expensive if thats what you mean.

I haven't had a problem with safety. You just need to use common sense. There's definitely some areas in manila where I won't go

Cool! So what would be a good income to have to live comfortably there? I understand they have a cool residency/visa thing going on too.

If you're single you can live fairly comfortably at 1500-2000/mo . Brian probably knows better than me because he actually lives there but I would say that most things cost about 4x less there than USA. However, some things like cars and computers often cost more. Rent isn't terribly cheap either. Just like anywhere living inside the city is much more expensive than living outside of it. If you're okay with having your home base away from the city you can make your dollar stretch REALLY far.

its cheap
there are plenty of whores
and its a shit hole.
people say you can live like a king there.. sure, anyone can, especially.. when your kingdom is a trash heap that smells like diesel fuel.
You get a nice car and pay 40% more for it. you cant drive it in that mess of traffic and never enjoy the car.
no thank you.. I choose to live like a king here.

"Manila" is a shithole but Makati and Ortigas look like any other American city. The parts of Manila built on the water unfortunately aren't well taken care of...otherwise I think it could be a really nice city....But some of the most beautiful beaches in the world are just a short drive away.

Costs totally depend on where you choose to live here in the Philippines. Regardless, it's usually 25% of the costs of living in the US. If you plan to go here and start your own cartoon studios using affordable but highly skilled Pinoy talent, I commend you. We need more investors to push the Philippine economy. Outsourcing (medical, BPO, legal, documents, etc etc) is booming here.

Your description is accurate for SOME parts of the greater metro manila area but not ALL. Fort Bonifacio/Global City, Eastwood, Emerald Ave/Ortigas, Ayala triangle in Makati, Alabang Town Center, and some other places are actually on a par with high end American locations.

Due to lower costs, YES, it is cheaper to live "like a king" (relative term, really--one man's king is another man's count or lower nobility ) here specially if you earn dollars, pounds or euros. In fact, many Filipino-Americans who get $1500 and up in retirement from pensions/social security go back here to retire. It just goes a longer way if you know where to live and you know how to live within your means.

I wonder what is wrong with sex tourists - you think of people as disposable toys, especially when they don't live in your country? Never, for a second, do you consider the disastrous effects of your bulldozer-like acts on fellow people's lives?

Philippines is the next outsourcing hub in Asia, next to India.

So just imagine, if this country is full of shitholes and whores, why
would names such as Microsoft, Dell, etc. would love to invest and
relocate their workers here?

Just like Gene said, there are certain areas where foreigners should
stay and lived. Philippines is mostly small islands and if you love to
enjoy the best beaches around, surely you won't have regrets
coming here just for a visit.

costs are comparable.

the RP is a poorer, less developed, and more corrupt government, but only slightly so.

thailand is much cleaner.

the main advantage is more people speak and/or understand english in the RP.

both places have beautiful, sexy, earthy women.

I'll be your tour guide Lizz. HAHA. I've been over here for about 5 months now and there is some truth in what everyone has been saying. Yes the traffic and drivers here in general are horrific. If you do own a car--yes, overpriced--and don't have a driver, you'll likely want to kill someone within a day or two. Rules of the road? What is that?
You can add polluted (in greater Manila), abject poverty, poor education, political corruption etc. it has them all. But many areas such as Makati and Ortigas are totally modern with clubs, malls, restaurants and such that you'll experience in every major US city. The people in general are extremely friendly and willing to help.
Your money will stretch farther overall but certain things are just as expensive or even more in some cases.
Of course if you're here to chase young girls, it's easy to take advantage if that's your thing. But right away you realize these young women have no overblown sense of entitlement like many females on the other side of the Pacific. Many of them are just trying to survive in a society that has little use for poor young females.
It's not a place for everyone but most people will be surprised how their opinion might change if they visited.

Spent about a month back there in Jun of 89 near Clark AB...Angeles City...

Had a blast, stayed in a very nice hotel downtown, oak floors, room service that still blows my mind, if it weren't for the humidity I could totally dig it...everyone I met there was wicked nice...

safe? not sure about that, we got there not long after a few US military dudes got killed downtown...

Clean air and clean food/water are the first thing. There are days here in Los Angeles I can literally smell Hong Kong.

It's bad enough air here in Los Angeles, I couldn't take that shit they call air in Thailand and Phillipines. How about Vietnam? I'm hearing they're really moving over there.

Either that or the local version of the Tong/Triad/Mafia. Those dudes usually are the first to smell big money and want to muscle in. For 'protection', of course.

With that said, there's many adult webmasters moving here so as long as you're not loud and you keep it legal (adult graphics work and promotions/support is currently a legal "gray area"), you should be fine. Invest and profit in outsourcing in the Philippines, just play it smart.

Best of luck to those who want to make the big move (and invest and create jobs here) Thanks and Mabuhay!
