UK guys, need help with some info

long story short(ish), asked a friend to register some eu domains for me since he's in the UK

he tried to register 20 domains, but only 1 was successfully registered (eu rush), and it has been almost two months since then, he can not get the remaining of his money back - he contacted the registrar 5 times (phonecalls + emails) - their response - our terms and conditions state that all the fees are non-refundable, you get credit and you must use this credit to register other domains

well, there's no way that this is legal, there's no way you can legally FORCE somebody to buy a product that he doesn't want

I told him to do a chargeback on his Visa card, but when he contacted the bank they told him to write them a letter and they'll look into it

I read the Visa chargeback policy, and it is a basically a no-fuss chargeback policy - if you don't get the goods and you tried contacting the merchant you should be able to chargeback no matter what

000000000000

what are your experiences with chargebacks, how can he do it without waiting for his bank to 'look into it', since the 2 months period will be over in about 5 days or so, and I wouldn't be surprised if the bank takes 2 weeks to solve the case

thanks

My experience has been that if you write to the card company requesting a chargeback, they will acknowledge the request immediately and suspend the charge while they investigate further. If their acknowledgement is within the timeframe, it's OK if the investigation itself goes over.

If he hasn't received an acknowledgement from the card company he needs to be calling them, sharpish.

thanks for the info guys, here's the link that 'sexus' sent me (thanks):
http://ec.europa.eu/internal_market/...rgeback_en.pdf

if you scroll down a bit you can see when a chargeback is justified, and one of the reasons is:
"i did not received what I purchased" - I believe this is exactly the case, they charged him for the 20 domain names but they could not register them, so basically he paid for goods/product that he did not receive

cool, I don't think chargeback should be a problem

To speed it up a bit, try getting a name from someone and then just deal with them - you should be able to file it by email as an attatchment, just make sure it lands in your contacts email box.

Works for a lot of things actually

yeah, learned that while dealing with my ISP, I order Internet account (gives you extra Gigs) and 3 days later the account still hasn't been activated, if you don't get their their names, they simply forget about you as soon as you hang up
