Yep. This is what I do. One of my academic sites' sales TRIPLED after I used my stats to identify and contact a site that was sending high conversion traffic. They were sending it for free but I bought some links and sales went through the roof.

Identify which traffic source converts the most and optimize it.

In most cases requires work and depends on your sponsors and the tools they offer. If a campaign ID is offered, you can use it to ID where the conversion came from. Some list the URL. ClickCash is a good example.

If you have a number of sponsors and are promoting them across a number of sites, it becomes a bit more of a challenge. You can look at traffic stats for each site and you can set up counters on traffic sent. In the end I think it becomes a matter of intuition a lot of times. Just like the sense you have when you think a sponsor is shaving. A lot of varibles at play and you have to grasp the whole picture somehow and come up with an opinion.

Hope there are smarter people than me to give ya a better answer.
