That stage of depression is actually good for those with thoughts of suicide... As they can't even get enough will power to do the job. But at soon as they begin an anti-depressant treatment it'll put them right above that stage and they can do it.

The usage of cocktails of pharma products, especially in the US, is certainly not related to improved health standards.

Last I heard, over 50% of folks were on "medication" of some kind. Either the US is the most unhealthy location on the planet or folks are being sold shit they do not need - and probably cause them damage.

Antidepressants basically kill your emotions. They do not fix you. Think of it as taking away all your emotions, and making you into a zombie. The problem is, that while you are like that, you are not addressing, or changing the issues that had gotten you to that point in the first place.

Unless you are seeing a psychotherapist and working on the underlying issue, you will never get better. Antidepressants should be nothing more than a quick fix at the beginning if you are having grief, like death of loved one, etc, where you can't function.

But you should wane yourself off of them ASAP as you learn to confront your demons, and find new coping techniques. Otherwise, when you stop taking them, the same problems are there. So you accomplished little in happiness.

In fact the best is, and not the worst like many believe, Prozac/Fluoxetine. It depends what you are being treated for but Zoloft works bad in many cases (nickname is "SoSoft"). Efexor I would not recommend at all as its basicly a coctail to treat ppl with "undetermined" "problems" etc.

Wellbutrin, dont know much about it, but since its also used for ppl trying to quit smoking... I dont know. Paxil (Seroxat, Paroxetine), often give more unwanted effects like dizzines, fatigue, dry mouth etc than the others.

Xanax, Valium, Benzos - just forget about them. Like I said, depends on what you are being treated for. If you are mano depressive for instance, Lamictal (lamotrigin) helps you far more than the meds mentioned above.

Too many doctors in the U.S. are receiving kick backs from pharmacuetical companies and are just prescribing shit rather than dealing with the underlying problem. That's why America is so fucked up and overly medicated. I went to the doctor once with the complaints of chest pains. Instead of doing what I assumed most doctors would do; run some EKG's, x-rays, and other various tests he just tells me that I'm having anxiety attacks and prescribes me xanax. I never got the prescription filled and chose to not only find a new doctor but wrote a formal complaint against the doctor that prescribed me a drug instead of running tests.

If you smoke, quit. If you drink, quit or do it in extreme moderation. Change your diet and start getting some physical excercise into your life. Excercising helps your body release endorphines (natural anti-depressants) and you'll get much better in no time. Trust me. I've been there and done that.

And there isn't a "best one" when it comes to SSRI.

you just have to test and see which one works best for you.

Anti-depressents do not kill your emotions by any means. Sheesh, where do people get such nonsense. Anti-depressents work not by killing your emotions by rather by slowing the removal of neurotransmitters from your brain. These substances are naturally occuring in everyone's body and it is believed people suffer from depression because their body is getting rid of the neurotransmitters too quickly.

Now, as to what is the best one..honestly...no one can tell you that here. There are many antidepressants on the market and some work on different types of depression. You need to know what kind of depression you are suffering from in order to get the depressent that will work for you.

Some people do well with higher seritonin levels, others with dopamine, tryciclids etc. Prozac is popular, usually for people suffering from your run of the mill depression...doldrums. So how do you feel? Do you feel an emotional mess? Do you feel overwhelmed...feel like crying all of the time...or angry...and your emotions are extreme? Then a general antidepressent like prozac might assist you. Thoughts of suicide etc. require a different approach and I would tell you to run, not walk to a health professional to get advice on that.

You can't expect an antidepressent to do it all for you. You have to help it, and that means making a few minor changes. Some doctors recommend the "thankful" approach. That means that every day you pick something out you are thankful for and concentrate on that. Love the looks of the sky? Sit out under the stars and really think about how huge the universe is and how amazing it is. Take a walk and take deep breaths and close your eyes for a second and think about how damn good that fresh air feels in your lungs.

Get a pair of binoculars and check out birds in the trees, boats on the water...whatever. LIVE life basically...enjoy every moment of it.

If there is one thing I have learned in my life is that whatever bad things happen...it isn't the end of the world. Stop beating yourself up and start being your biggest fan.

Guess what? Anti-depressants are not used exclusively for treating bouts of depression! There are other conditions that may require their usage. In some cases they can be entirely unnecessary/ineffective of course, but when prescribed properly to improve certain issues, they can be useful.

Anti-depressants are simply band-aid solutions, which are quite often effective when coupled with therapy of some sort. Most of you naysayers are pulling "facts" out of your ass.
