In fact a URL for a tutorial on how to properly setup a server, with perl, and FTP capable is what I really need.

I don't have specifics about the type of server, but it uses UNIX if that is any help. I don't know anything about servers. If specifics are needed tell me what specifics are needed.

I just spoke with my son.
The server is online but he wants to install Perl so that CGI script can be used and FTP capable. It is a Microsoft IIS 5.0 server with Windows 2000 operating system (I thought it was UNIX but was mistaken). It has Microsoft Front Page Extentions. Before anyone starts critisizing the server and operating system this server is not going to be used for adult sites. It is more of a personal server. |

get yourself the G6 FTP Server software.... install, and ftp away..... it's simple enough that all but a moron can operate it. You can set up multiple accounts and link specific directories and all that happy shit..... very intuitive software...... easy to use & inexpensive.

My son tells me that he has Perl installed on the server but cannot get CGI script to work correctly.
This is the info he provided to me: "Basically when I try to run script from the website....it acts as if it is a file to be downloaded instead of running the script." Does this ring a bell with anyone or do you have advice about setting up Perl correctly on this type of server? |

I had the same shit....for my paysite i have to execute a cgi script daily...few months back it downloaded into a txt file suddenly (it did execute tho) and now since a while it just executes on the server again without me touching anything.
I dont have a clue what it is. |

it sounds like a script mapping problem or the directory is not set up with execute permissions. If he has administrative privs on the box he should make sure it is mapped correctly and the directory is set with execute privs. If he doesn't then he should ask his sys admin to look at it.
How do I configure Microsoft IIS 4.0/IIS 5.0 to support ActivePerl? http://aspn.activestate.com//ASPN/Re..._Microsoft_IIS cheers |

Battuss and Spanky:
Thanks for the input. I haven't been in touch with my son today as of this point in time. Anyone else with any input about this subject. |
