- Naha (capital of Okinawa) is as cramped as other cities around tokyo. 8000 people per square kilometer... This really makes me wonder why the hell they didn't use more of the land available around okinawa. There are tons of free land, yet when there's a city, it's so packed that there's no grass or trees. Might have something to do with the American bases everywhere

The only thing that seems to be as expensive as the mainland is land itself. I've seen a few $500k - million dollar houses on LEASED land. They pay monthly rental fees to the land owner.

in tokyo right now

food & beer are cheaper than vancouver, nothing a dollar a beer though. but the tax and tip difference alone make it cheap

restaurants around here are 15-20 a person, +beer

certain areas of this city are packed (shinjyuku, harajuku), most are chill .. i think they just love to cram together

i hear okinawa is sick .. maybe check it out in golden week

I don't know much about the media because I don't watch much japanese tv or read newspaper, but as far as I know, porn and sexuality don't have bad connotation in the culture. I've told the 3 different japanese girls I dated that I was in the "porn" business and they didn't flinch at all.

It's cheaper and quieter than tokyo for sure! As for your torrents downloads, in tokyo with fiber to home, you should be downloading a LOT faster! check your settings ;)

I was living in "monthly mansions" for the first 6 months... it's almost like a hotel suite but there's no lobby or staff. It's all furnished, there's TV, internet, phone, etc. but it's the size of a hotel room, so I needed something bigger. So I moved into a 3 bedroom apartment that is about 5 times bigger, but I feel it's temporary. What I want to do is find a house on or really close to the beach.

Unless I drive 30-40 minutes away, what they call houses are extremely close to each other (i'm talking 2-3 feet distance between buildings, I'll snap a pic to show you) and there's no land/grass/trees/whatever. They don't like to waste space like that... So I have a dilemma, either go far away from Naha, or learn to live like the japanese do.

Whatever choice I'll make, in my experience so far, Japanese housing is a LOT crappier than Canadian housing, but people don't give a shit.

I'm sure it depends where, but YES it's true! I can't shake the image of the Montreal subway compared to the Tokyo subway. I'd eat on the floor or the Tokyo subway hehe.

IM HUGE in Japan.

My inlaws live in Yokohoma and we go over once a year. Planning for Aug, or September depending on how the show schedule turns out. I know I have to be in Miami, and possibly have one in Montreal in August. Our oldest starts kindergarten in late August though, so have to see. We also discussed skipping Japan and having her parents and sister and brother in law all meet in Hawaii which is what Id prefer to do.
