albums and Cd's are dead....
when's the last time you sat down and listened to an album end to end? singles are back and here to stay - CD's days are numbered - everything is going download - soon brick and mortar stores will close completely - magazines are next - then movie theaters - times are changing - better get ready - signed....ezradamous

I actually can't stand listnening to single songs, I prefer to have song progressions that albums provide.
Now, given the digital age, I can see record companies offering lossless cd images for download in the future, as opposed to buying a cd from the store. But I still like the jewel boxes with inserts and such, especially if they are signed too. Gives music so much more of a personal feel. As for buying online, technology provides for better medium.. you had vynils, then tapes, then cds.. it just keeps getting smaller. Memory sticks for portable devices + hard drives that can store thousands of albums is where we're at right now.

Thats what the record companies want you to think, that the internet etc are hurting their sales. In fact they are having better and better years.
I still by a cd occasionaly, but it is much easier to find singles on the net, and make my own. That includes paying for it via itunes etc.

I still listen to albums but the kids today are not - they buy/pirate the songs one at a time - now that I have an ipod my cd player is gone too - I fought it as long as I could but now it's obvious it's going this way - everything on hardrives - I still remember buying vinyl and the change to CD - this is different though - I can feel a total shift in the fabric that is technology - not just a format change - strange days style - jack in

I think it will take a while before movie theaters are gone.. Most home entertainment centers can't replace a movie theater.
CD's maybe.. but not until mp3 players become the defacto in cars.

i haven't brought an album in years for 2 reasons being the price of the albums at $25-$30 , that wouldn't be quite so bad providing that the albums had a good songs on them ,but the majority have 2-3 good songs and the rest are crap or rehasehed shit from previous albums
working in a radio station does have its perks but, we are always getting multiple copies of new albums sent to us, one copy goes into the libary , one or 2 go into comps and giveaways and one goes into my bag |

I download a lot -- mostly from itunes but also from illegal sources as well if I can't find what I want on itunes. But I also still buy a lot of CD's for artists that I feel strongly about supporting.
The RIAA, record labels (and some artists like Metallica) have been all up in arms over illegal downloads for years. IMHO, they'll never win if they're fighting against the internet. They'll only start to win once they realize that old catalog and especially newest realeases WILL be leaked before the release date and fight back with special CD-only and legal-only promos and multimedia. |

I am never letting go of my record albums. If I did I would never be able to roll a joint again nor show my kids or grandkids how to roll one. For me they are eternal. Every try rolling on on your ipod? it just does not work.

The only salvation left for retail music stores is to provide kiosks where you can sit and sample lots of music and create your own albums with high quality fast CD dupiclators.
