If you are slaving at a desk and want an early happy hour, tell your boss you are going to Good Friday service and will not be back in. They legally can't say one word or will be breaking the law. Sorry bosses but some of us will take a freakin break where we can get one!

I also could legally fire your ass. Since it is not a mandatory holiday and if it was and you still agreed to come in with extra pay then if you leave I still could fire your ass. So do share what law I would be breaking please.

I checked to be certain and I am still correct. Legally a company is not required to give any holidays off at all. What you are seeming to talk about though is religious discrimination, and in those instances where a company can not prove hardship they very well still can make the person loose a vacation day or other eligible day off in exchange for taking off a religious holiday or make the person taking the time off make it up to the company with additional time on.

So I stay where I was.

fortunately my boss is out of town today. thats why at lunch i went to grab some mexican food and drank a couple coronas. said why stop at 2 might as well go grab a 6 pack. so here we are at 1PM starting my friday off early.

requesting 1/2 a day falls under "reasonable request" to accomodate for religious practices/observation. any half way decent employer has no problem whatsoever with this concept. friends that work for Verizon, Eastwood Insurance and Ameriquest are already off work with no hassle for Good Friday. I don't think porn is exempt.

Nope, it is not as long as certain aspects are followed. Like I said if someone wanted a religious holiday off I can force them to take a vacation day or other day off in exchange for it, or I can force them to make up the time. Like it or not they will still work the time or get the boot.

I guess if you are creative enough to fire them for a different reason and don't use the words "force you to work", "force you to take vacation" when they kindly ask for a little prayer time you might come out alright. Wouldn't put your theory to the test though.
