It's all good until your site gets hammered 250000 times per day.

since when is it my responsibility to pay the bandwith ref.log attacks cost me??

Do you leave the door to your house unlocked to?? Would you leave the door to your brick and mortar shop unlocked?? Don't display every referer, password protect your stats pages and they will go away.

bullshit, i have a site i removed the original blog software I had installed and doesnt even have the shit on it now and they still hammer the fuck outta the site and its been that way for 4 months.

They have a script that does it, and it doesn't care if its successful or not.

I should lookup who the host is though and send them a bandwith bill.

Guess that will teach you to not leave that shit open when you open a new site...

Seriously... deny the IP and/or their domain from your site.

It does that with every domain it doesn't check if they have open logs or not.

it would be stupid for a ref spammer to check every million domains in his databases.
He just runs the script and doesn't give a fuck.

Interesting... I think it would be stupid to just hit millions of domains... Waste of time when with a couple extra lines of code you can check if it worked or not and keep your database lean and mean.. Only an idiot would code something to just blast millions of domains. It would be better to hit a few thousand multiple times as opposed to a million a couple times. If you were right, everyone would be getting ref spammed all the time and that's not the case.

There is no easy way to check if it worked or not because all sites function
different and for ref spam you can't guess the stats url.
Ref spam its not only about getting links on the front page of the site,
those links could be shown in other pages or in a stats page that gets indexed in the search engine. If you know a bit programming you'd know that theres no real solution to that, not a cheap one.
If I were to ref spam, I could give a fuck about how big the database is
I can buy a server for as cheap as $70/month and have it ref spam all day.
All I care is that I have a x% that works.

but they spam the same site, no? Well the refspamming script immitates a browser request, so it carries always the same info (the same url they refspam), no matter what ip/proxy the request comes

I'm no expert but I think there there should be a way to block that???????

jupiter won't host this shit, neither would webair.

keep holding the flag up cavecreek, ref.spam rocks, it makes you guys great $$$ and costs anyone else a truckload of bandwith.

I doubt they are actually aware of having a spammer and if you contact their abuse department they would take it down.

No one hosting company can take heat from an ongoing spammer. At least not in the US.

cavecreek is well aware of the situation, been talking to the for over 2 month , they are blowing their reputation for a couple of dollars.

my sites have been hit for more than 3 month now. hundreds of thousands of hits per day. bandwith sucking scum. I am paying this bandwith.

I should invoice cavecreek for the bandwith that has been wasted.

even worse, your sites are getting hit too, cavecreek is hosting the biggest ref.log spammer network on this planet.

AND THEY KNOW IT !!!

You can do nothing about ref spam. Just password protect your statistics and no referrers on your pages.

that does not not stop the attacks.

besides, there is no "just do this sollution" as you get hit from new IPs/domains daily, it an ongoing job and I do not believe that I am the one that needs to spend his time working on this.

I do believe it's cavecreek's responsibility to put this to an end.

I wasn't talking about checking if it "worked" i.e. that it shows up on the page or stats page (although that isn't all that hard to do either). I was refering to checking whether or not you end up getting a forbidden result when you do the access. You get that for free so it's "cheap".

In your .htaccess put the following. Add more SetEnvIfNoCase lines for each referer domain you want to forbid.

SetEnvIfNoCase Referer loan-here\.com fuckrefspam
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer debt-consolidation-reviews\.com fuckrefspam
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer 24x7-debt-consolidation\.com fuckrefspam
Order Allow,Deny
Allow from all
Deny from env=fuckrefspam

You can also use this method to block certain bots, offline browsers etc. eg: combine the two.

BrowserMatchNoCase ^WebReaper fuckthemall
BrowserMatchNoCase ^WebSauger fuckthemall
BrowserMatchNoCase "^Mister PiX" fuckthemall
BrowserMatchNoCase "^Offline Explorer" fuckthemall
BrowserMatchNoCase "^Download Ninja" fuckthemall
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer loan-here\.com fuckthemall
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer debt-consolidation-reviews\.com fuckthemall
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer 24x7-debt-consolidation\.com fuckthemall
Order Allow,Deny
Allow from all
Deny from env=fuckthemall

I use this method with great success. My bot list is very large and so I put this right into the apache config as opposed to the .htaccess which has to be read with each access.

just wanted to let you know that they took the server/s down until rocksolidcolo can investigate what is going on
08:37
rocksolidcolo is just a normal hosting company, it is their client that is causing the problems.

Just fill in what you want any email is fine.

I can paypal you some scrilla for you time and would really appreciate it.

Also if there is a site with a proxy i.p. list that I can get in text format that would be great.

Thanks, Chaze
