yeah there are a whole host of words, etc. that norton blocks...
I found this list somewhere before..dont know who the author is, but it's a handy bit of information. ---------------------------------------------------- Norton Internet Security Alert If you can not click or see some links on this page, it is because your Norton Firewall Internet Security software is set BY DEFAULT to NOT DISPLAY affiliate links for affiliates using services such as CommissionJunction, BeFree, GoogleAdSense, etc. Those of us who earn our living on commisisons from affiliate partners consider this restraint of trade and improper censorship. Norton has decided that such links should be erased and removed from your Web pages so you can't see them. Please turn these links back on as they should be and then purchase other firewall software. This applies only to users of Norton Internet Security products, not users of just the Norton Anti-Virus products. In your Norton Internet Security options, go to Ad Blocking and turn it OFF. This will allow you to see banner ads and other links on Web pages that Norton blocks by default. Leave the POP-UP blocker ON. Web designers construct their pages to visually accomodate banners. All of us that use affiliate text links to earn a living need to be able to have our users click through to make their purchases. Norton is not only blocking graphic ad banners but they are blocking simple TEXT links to our vendors as well. This is unfair restraint of trade as well as malicious altering of our Web sites. Complaints have already been made to the FTC. Not all links are blocked. Only the ones Norton has decided to include in their default list. Of course, Symantec is not blocked, nor are other vendors that appear to have worked out deals with Symantec. Banners of 468x60 pixels are blocked regardless of what they display or their source. In addition, any LINK containting any of the following domains or keywords is blocked: Here's part of them: #CLink %23CLink %2Fads%2E %3Fad%2E &ad_ &banner= -ad.cgi .ads/ .ad. .ads. .ads/ .bluestreak.com .eshop. .net-on.com .webconnect.net /199.78.52. /?ad. /ad- /.ad. /ad/ /ad_control /ad.image /ad.track/ /adbot. /adclient. /adcontent. /adcouncil/ /adgifs/ /adgraph/ /adimages/ /adinfo /adjuggler /adlog. /adman. /adnet. /adnet/ /adpics/ /adpopup /adproof/ /aredirect /adrevolver/ /ads- /ads. /ads/ /adsales /adserv /adspace /adsrc /adv/ /advert/ /advertentie /advertise/ /advertiser/ /advertising/ /adverts/ /adview. /banner. /banner/ /banner= /banner_images/ /banners/ /by.banclk? /clickover. /cyberfirst /follow_ad? /generate_ad. /graphics/advert /htmlad/ /jbanner/ /liveads/ /nph-bounce? /nph-load? /nph-redir? /promo_gif/ /promos/ /promote/ /promotions/ /rankem.cgi?action= /sponsor.

Thanks! I've been aware of this situation for a cpl years now, norton isnt the only culprit, there are other ad blocking softwares out there too, that operate about the same way. I dont use folders named "images", "ads", "banners" or any sponsor name, I even rename any sponsor provided images or banners I use so they are unique. also a lil tip if you do use common sized banners, especially 468x60 or 80 change the size in the html by 1 pixel each way..it doesnt distort the banner and it will defeat most of the ad blocking settings. |
