Even in the "real world" we make playgrounds for the kids. Do the supporters of the .xxx tld want to remove every car from the highway, so their kids can play there? And I´m tired of hearing the "think about the children" argument from the .xxx supporters - *Í am thinking about the children*, I´m thinking about their RIGHTS and their FREEDOM when they become adults.

The good news is that in the EU there are strong forces working on the .kids tld. A safe place for kids.

.xxx isn't going to keep anyone out unless the ISP just blocks everyone by default.

As we speak, there is a proposal from the opposition in the Australian government (Australia, not Austria!) to make ISP-level filtering mandatory. If it passes, the default setting would keep all adult content out. If a subscriber wants to receive it, s/he will have to call their ISP to have it allowed through.

I mentioned this to several ICANN staffers. No matter the internal ICANN politics, they understood the significance of making people announce their intention to receive adult products, and could only shake their heads at the thought.

Yep and how mnay people are going to call ther ISP and say "Yes this is ( insert your name, address, phone # ) I would like access to porn. And then don't think that ISPs won't CHARGE for this service. Good luck getting people to buy porn memberships when they have to pay just to get access to porn from their web browswer.

How many letters has been already sent and how many would you like to see?

Personally, I have already sent emails to ICANN ( also ICANN board members ) and even Department of Commerce just before Wellington.

But I am just a small single webmaster and I guess if the big companies opposed that, only then it would matter.

It's not proposed it's actually a law. And even though a judge threw out the secondary producer part doesn't mean it's permanent. Until the Supreme Court says you can't have a secondary producer clause in 2257 it still may apply to us.

You have probably done enough. It would be nice if the largest brands in this industry that have not yet done so would take a simple position for the businesses in this industry and the consumers of their products. It would help.

If you read the GAC communique, you will see this sentence, "The GAC would request a written explanation of the Board decision, particularly with regard to the sponsored community and public interest criteria outlined in the sponsored top level domain selection criteria."

Translation:

GAC = Government Advisory Committee. It is the ICANN constituent committtee for world governments. 109 governments are represented on GAC. When they issue a communique, it is the consensus voice of all those countries.

Sponsored community = adult entertainment industry. They are saying that even though the ICANN Board has said that ICM has shown to their satisfation that they have the support of the industry, GAC is not convinced.

This Is Important: FSC sent a letter of opposition to Dr. Cerf last year. He promised to have it posted to the ICANN website. It was never posted. In New Zealand, I found out why. Because ICANN staff did not want GAC country members to know that there was any industry opposition to dot xxx!

Send a letter to GAC members if you want. Pick your countries. They are all listed on the GAC site: http://gac.icann.org/web/contact/reps/index.shtml

As it is, we have strategies in play. We are not waiting for letters that may never come. Dot xxx may not go through anyway. We are doing our best.

Excellent suggestion!

Also if you are in the EU, then you can contact the different MEPs from your country:

http://www.europarl.eu.int/members.do?language=EN

While the European parliament have proposed the .kid tld., then its uncertain if it will work or even get created by ICANN - the kids.us domain flopped so its uphill for .kid http://www.out-law.com/page-6107 but still most EU MEPs would rather see a .kid tld, than a .xxx tld. There are several EU MEPs that are watching the .xxx tld. debate, but are misinformed about the adult industry´s view on the .xxx and .kid.

Let's put a little of the time and effort we use in reading threads to instead send the letters---it's simple, we either speak up to the powers-to-be or it'll be assumed that we don't care what they decide to do TO us; basically, we either oppose .xxx, or we end up being raped/bankrupted by it's approval and implementation:-(.

PLEASE start writing letters NOW!!!!

Would it not be worthwhile for every site member to be asked to also write letters in opposition to .xxx????

Also, without spamming how about email lists being asked to do likewise?

In fact, let's also urge every member to register to vote, to become informed about the records of incumbents and the positions of challengers, and to actually vote in every eligible upcoming election.

Instead of merely complaining and/or reacting after-the-fact, we ALL need to start becoming actively involved NOW.

Please write those letters, involve your site members to write letters, and urge everyone to become informed voters.

Together, we have power, but we need to indeed wield it --- otherwise, our incomes and the American Constitution gets raped:-((.

Besides the letter for FSC use, I also emailed my opposition to .xxx and my support for .kids to the below Goverment Advisory Committee representative for the United States:

I realize that, I was referring to the proposed changes which were eventually added to the law and have since been shot down, pertaining to secondary producers.

For some reason, adult webmasters don't understand that a law can be proposed and even passed that eventually will not stand up in court. A law doesn't have to go through some judicial approval process to be passed.

Industry support is not only arguing together against some proposals, but also show responsibility. As long there are spam and SE porn flooding on phrases like 'Mickey Mouse', not stopped because of short-term profit, proposals and ideas like .xxx will never go away

Sure, proposing solutions is always a good thing. We are certainly not just saying no, but the decision before ICANN right now is .xxx and nothing else. However, in the letters we sent to GAC members, we did suggest a solution that they could actually appreciate - dot.kids/juv.

And I might add, lots of people I spoke with in New Zealand freely admitted that .xxx would not work, and saw how a .kids might, especially for younger children, but that did not mean they could or would make a public stand.

Bullshit. Everyone I know, including me is part of the FSC... how much more support do I need? Many of the top US players for internet and DVD support them.

If this is true, that is pretty lame on FSC behalf. All they had to do was ask for help and they would of had it. They did not ask me.

Not sure what you are talking about. In my post #126, I was referring to people in New Zealand, ICANN staff, people like that, not people from the industry.

We are simply soliciting emails or letters of opposition. They can be sent to me at [email protected]. I am posting to the site a sample letter for people to use or edit however they like, and a link to our online letter-writing campaign that has been up since last year.

*Bump* for an important thread.

The damnable hell is that if there's $$ or political capital in it for the schmucks on the hill, they wont' stop pushing it. Whether they ever get anything passed is irrelevant. They want the time on CNN to get their faces and names on voter's minds...that's it.

Guys, we all know that surfers are going to find a way. Porn is the reason the Internet exists in it's current form. Sure, Ebay and Amazon are neat...but let's be real...most guys aren't going to pay $50 /month and spend endless hours digging through Ebay looking for that special trinket to "really finish out" the whatever collection on the living room mantle.

If .xxx passes, so what? The biggest business online will immediately be a way around that. Maybe IP spoofers, maybe proxies, whatever it is, it'll work and it'll be $39.95, processed by somebody. All the offshore sites will do the grand majority of the business and most of the big boys know that and are already setup for it.

Let DC circle jerk one another and mind fuck middle America until they're blue in the face. As long as there's a demand, there will be a business and people will make money in it.

your all fuckin fools.

someone tries to educate you, and all you fuckin keep doing is posting news articles over and over.

Its the adult industry ITSELF that dont give a fuck about you little people.

your all worried about the xxx shit list when u all should be worried about the new bill that WILL get passed soon limiting ACCESS TO ALL WEBSITES ON THE WEB.

Its going to COST YOU FUCKIN money to view webpages!.

wtf do you care if your thrown into the xxx "ghetto" when soon enough surfers will either need to PAY to view your crappy webpages, or not even have access to them at all.

And since this forum is run by adult.com....and since they adamently CLAIM they are the BIGGEST.......why havent they themselves been releasing notes ?

why havent they themselves been posting IMPORTANT ARTICLES RELATING TO THEIR LIVELY HOOD AND YOURS?

your all fuckin fools, caught up in the dream of I CAN MAKE MILLIONS while i sit my fat ass in front of the pc and do absolutely nothing.

wake the fuck up assholes. THESE PEOPLE DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU, because in the end, its them who gets the big bucks selling their sites to the major net providers who in turn will CHARGE the average everyday surfer a toll TO view the sites fools like you made valuable to them.

such entreprenuers on this board

So before you post up another "would you hit it" post on GFY, why not do something pro active to stop this .XXX deal from passing. Its as simple as contacting the FSC to send a letter or contact the larger companies you send traffic to to submit a letter showing there non support.

Just when it looked like ICANN had buckled under U.S. Commerce Department pressure to shelve the proposed .XXX top-level domain, leaving ICM Registry in the cold, the Free Speech Coalition is concerned that .XXX may once again be alive and well. At issue are a series of correspondences between ICANN?s General Advisory Committee, Commerce and ICM regarding contract provisions that, if adopted, would be binding on all .XXX domains.

Regulation of ANY kind in the adult market place is BAD for business. Agreed it needs to be fought, they are trying to get the adult market place from whatever angle they can.

your all worried about the xxx shit list when u all should be worried about the new bill that WILL get passed soon limiting ACCESS TO ALL WEBSITES ON THE WEB.

Yucky Smurf...the ones that dont do anything i agree can be called "fucking fools"

Throwing this up on a board such as GFY is futile, and most on this board dont give a fuck anyway, to busy posting up "would you hit it posts" but that is cool and that is what its all about over here.

Last time i checked this is a biz and the biz is big, the sad thing is that there is NO organization ...the Video biz does not let shit like this happen. So what do we do, no LEADERS of our biz have come out to take charge...why they dont give a shit, if you want to know the truth.

i think its funny to see the people that are writing

"as long as i can get my domain who cares"

hahahaha

fuck, are you kidding. does anyone think for minute that these fuckers are gonna not let other people register your domains?

hahahahaha

give me a break. they aren't going to stop anyone from registering your domains. how much do you want to pay to get them back?

they know full well what is going to happen. they are probably already building fees and transfer costs and squatting relief fees (lol) into the whole thing.

no one is gonna watch anyones ass for you.

lol.
