no I haven't but a city near me put up red light cams recently and a couple TV news stations did tests with the spray. it only worked from a few angles under ideal lighting conditions, so the majority of the time it was still able to get a good image of the plates. The problem is the spray only reflects light from a flash so unless the pics are taken at night at just the right angle it doesn't reflect enough light back to the camera to obscure the image.

The covers have a prismatic effect though so it supposedly works under all lighting conditions uless it's viewed directly (at an angle the cameras couldn't possibly be mounted at). Note the word 'supposedly' Don't blame me if you get a ticket.

It does work, and is quickly becoming illegal in many states. you may want to think twice about using it.

A mistake is something you learn from and do not repeat thanks to your experiences. An accident is an unexpected event or an unforeseen incident.

Red lights are pre warned by yellow lights. One learns from experience and the law that one should not push yellow lights, and that the yellow light is warning you that the light will turn red.
If you accidentally did not see the yellow light or were driving to fast to prevent safely slowing down and stopping at it then you are just not paying attention, do not give a fuck about others safety, or feel that the rules should not apply to you.

Buying a spray just to prevent punishment from what you perceive to be mistakes or accidental occurences just goes to show that you do not care about others. Of course this spray will not prevent a real accident.

So is speeding. There is ussually a damn good reason why they have such things as speed limits.

You should learn more about these cameras before you rush to make a decision. These are installed for the sole purpose of generating income and nothing more.

The camera manufacturers split the revenue from traffic tickets with the city that installs them. So the camera companies have a profit motive to entrap as many motorists as possible.

Many times the camera companies shave off the time a yellow light is displayed anywhere from one half second to several seconds, this way they catch people who (before the yellow was shaved) would have safely made it through before turning red.

On top of this you have other more common instances where your vehicle is in the middle of an intersection trying to make a turn and you're waiting for traffic to clear up in the opposiing lane. Sometimes the traffic never clears up until the lights turn red - in which case you would get a ticket from these cameras.

If you think these cameras have anything whatsoever to do with safety concerns, you are being naive. If that were the case the cities wouldn't allow the camera companies to fuck around with the time a yellow light is displayed.

Do not enter an intersection until it is safe to leave the intersection.
Do not enter an intersection on a yellow light unless it is unsafe to remain where you are.
Do not point loaded guns at people you do not intend to hurt.

Seems pretty simple to me.

I know damn well they are revenue generators. They generate revenue by ticketing those that are breaking the law. Not sure where you do not see how breaking the law and safety may go hand in hand.

People should not be running yellows either really. There is a method to the rules after all.

are you an idiot?

if a traffic light has been giving a 5 second yellow for the past 30 years and one of these cameras is installed and it suddenly goes to a one second yellow that has nothing at all to do with safety, and that is what these camera companies are doing. if you can't understand that I'm not going to try to explain it to you any further

From the Young Drivers website:

INTERSECTIONS

Nearly one third of all collisions happen at intersections. In order to make certain that no one is running the red, you should scan left, centre and right before proceeding on a fresh green or when approaching every intersection. Red lights and stop signs only stop drivers who see them. Be sure it is safe before entering an intersection.

LEFT TURNS AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS

Turning left in front of oncoming vehicles on a green light is one of the most dangerous maneuvers you will ever perform. The view of oncoming cars may be blocked by approaching left turning vehicles, blinding rain or snow and still drivers turn. When the light turns amber many drivers gamble and complete the turn hoping they won't be hit. Avoid the danger. Instead of turning left in bad weather, go through the intersection and make 3 right turns to get around the block and onto the intended street in complete safety.

WHEELS STRAIGHT FOR LEFT TURN

When waiting to make a left turn at an intersection you should come to a stopped position with your wheels pointing straight ahead. If you notice that a vehicle is coming up too fast from behind then you have the opportunity to drive straight through the intersection and avoid being hit from behind.

ditto for most places with any significant amount of traffic... I'd like to see some of these people try to drive through a big city sometime
