none yet. still smoking a pack a day. damn nicotine gum tastes like shit and the patch falls off way before the 12 hour perid. Quit smoking sponsor told me that some people actually use duct tape to keep there patch on. The birth control patches are made with much better adhesive. I do hear that patch is killing people though. oh well.

The nicotine patch is a way to take in nicotine without smoking. The idea of using the nicotine patch is to allow you to first change the things you do that support your habit before you deal with your addiction to nicotine. Once you're a nonsmoker, you can deal with the nicotine and stop the patch. For it to work, you must carefully follow the directions on how to use it.

Cold turkey. It's 10% chemical dependence... 90% mental. Make yourself so busy and entertained that you don't have time to think about it, even for a second. After a few days or week, you won't miss it... unless you obsess over it.

To her its like Pringles, once you puff you can't stop.

Cigarettes are highly efficient nicotine delivery devices and are as addictive as drugs such as heroin or cocaine.

In relation, it would be interesting to know the real facts behind nicotine addiction.

Nicotine is a stimulant drug, but paradoxically effects of both stimulation and relaxation may be felt. The mental and physical state of the smoker, and the situation in which smoking occurs, can influence the way in which a particular cigarette will affect psychological perceptions. The addictive effect of nicotine is linked to its capacity to trigger the release of dopamine - a chemical in the brain that is associated with feelings of pleasure. However, recent research has suggested that in the long term, nicotine depresses the ability of the brain to experience pleasure. Thus, smokers need greater amounts of the drug to achieve the same levels of satisfaction. Smoking is therefore a form of self-medication: further smoking alleviates the withdrawal symptoms which set in soon after the effects of nicotine wear off. -- ash.org.UK

cold turkey the only way
have some balls and just stop
you can handle it, it isn't heroin
I just quit 4 days ago and it hasn't been easy
When the doctor tells you that you have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Alpha1 antitrypsin deficiency-related (AAT) emphysema
you quit pretty fast if you want to live a few extra years.

I smoked for over 30 years...2 and half packs a day for the last 2 years, I've been smoke free for a little over 2 and half months...this is my second attempt at quiting the first time about 2 years ago I made it 2 weeks and gave in, thought I could have just 1 Any how the way I quit was, I got some nicotine gum and read the directions...then I said fuck the directions (they would have had me so pumped full of nicotine it would not have been funny) Soooo I only took a piece of gum when I really needed it...at first about a piece every 4 or 5 hours...after about 2 weeks I would have about 1 piece a day just to take the edge off and now I take 1 every once and awhile mainly when I drink because I still get a little weak and want a smoke when I drink ...but the biggest thing with quiting is you have to really want to quit and stick with it I know I can't have just 1 or I'll be smokeing like a mother fucker again...The bottom line is YOU HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT what works for me might not work for you. Just don't give in when you feel like having a smoke and tell yourself I DON'T SMOKE ANYMORE. Also it helps me to remember that it took me 30 years to get this fucked up and it isn't going to fix it self over night it takes along time to get over smoking and you won't feel better right away (you will feel worse for awhile do a google search for nicotine withdrawl so you know what to expect)...but IT IS WORTH IT....GOOD LUCK

Good for you

Started smoking since college but i wouldn't call it addiction at that time
it was more of a stress reliever for the rest us, though I can admit
even now that i never had any problems quitting at any point in time.
Besides, smoking never runs in our family. It started with a stick then
eventually max of 3 a day. This year, i even manage to smoke only one
cig a week which is a big achievement for me. Here's the worst part, if
you hang with some close friends who most of them smokes, tendency is
I get hooked back again like a speeding ferrari on a highway.

cold turkey is the only way

problem with nicotine is you build up tolerance to it, so even if you use patches and other nicotine replacements, you're just prolonging things, you're still going to have to go through nicotine withdrawel and just lowering intake will make it harder, because you're cravings will only intensify.

you just have to take it one day at a time, keep yourself busy, try not to think about it at all.. eat a LOT if you can, eat mints or anything that doesnt go well with smoking too.

best thing to do though is to quit with someone else, it makes things much easier when your with someone who's going through the same thing.

and you have to have a reason to quit, it cant just be "because I should", you have to think about your family, your kids, your kids kids.. you dont want you're loved ones to sit around you one day on a bed while your so thin and dying that they can see your bones and organs through your skin.

Just remember whether its been 2 years, 20 years, or more.. the hardest part of quitting is the first 3 days, the next 2 weeks are just mental, after that smoking isnt even a second thought most the time.

it takes 18 days of a repetitive action to form a habit, so 18 days of non-smoking should start you on your non-smoking habit

Furious_Female and I quit this month, we've both tried before but it was much easier doing it together, so the best thing to do is find someone to quit with, if your wife or girlfriend smokes.. ask them to quit with you, then spend the next 3 days attached at the hip, find as many things to do together as you can and dont think about smoking

Last weekend when I went out drinking and partying at a strip club (wild night lol) i had like 7 cigs from a friend of mine....but i also knew that I'd leave it there at the strip club and not smoke at home for a million different reasons, and i havent Its been about a year since I quit and I honestly have no desire to pick up the HABIT again. But I know that if im in a social situation, that I am strong enough to deal with a few smokes and still be smoke free the next day.

Midnight, March 5th 2002. I smoked the last cig I had in the pack. Never bought anymore. This was after smoking 20 years. You can try all you want. You'll never quit, until you truly want to.

It IS a tough thing to kick, regardless what others say! People cope differently. I know cause i managed to not start all through highschool and college, but then travelling through Australia it just happened! Then i quit for 3 years! THEN, one stupid night, thinking I was better than the stereotype, i gave into a couple smokes....and have now been smoking again for a year! I'm the biggest Fool I know!
