Very honarable thing to do.

Lost my sister to cancer when she was 27.
money cant bring her back, but maybe someone elses family will benefit from your good deed. Even a little bit, can mean a whole lot, to people who are suffering.

Yes, I'm very excited about the events which are both held in May and June. I think the June event is right before Cybernet Expo, at least I hope so. If not, then it's right after that show which will be a drag because the shows usually wipe me out and it takes a few days to get back to my routine. Both triathlons are Olympic distance triathlons which consist of: mile swim in frigid waters, a twenty-five mile bike ride, and a six-mile run.

Thanks again everyone for the bumps and donations! It's so great to see our industry pull together; we are a very genuine, dedicated group.

Action Alert-- Increased Funding for Cancer Research in FY 2007

BACKGROUND

On February 6, 2006, President Bush released his proposed federal budget for Fiscal Year 2007 to Congress. Unfortunately, the President's budget fails to meet even the basic public health needs for cancer patients and survivors as well as for other Americans with chronic disease and disability.

On the heels of approving the first cut to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) funding since 1970 in FY 2006, the President has proposed even deeper cuts to NCI in FY 2007. As a result, the total number of NIH-funded research project grants would drop by 642, or 2 percent, below last year's level. The President's budget would cut funding for 18 of the 19 institutes. Funding for the National Cancer Institute would be cut by $40 million.

While this is very serious situation, there is a glimmer of hope. While he does make budget recommendations, ultimately, the President doesn't get to decide how much money is spent on these critical programs. That responsibility lies solely with the Congress. Thus, the only way to GUARANTEE that these programs are not only saved from cuts but also receive necessary increases in FY 2007 is for Congress restore these draconian proposed cuts AND provide the appropriate increases.

In order to assure that funding is available, we have to influence the budget process from the beginning. That starts with the Congressional Budget Resolution, which sets the spending caps for the year by "Functions." For health care, including medical research and public health programs, the critical Function is "550." The bottom line is simple -- if the Budget Resolution CUTS Function 550, the Appropriations bill MUST CUT medical research and public health programs. We simply cannot rely on the Appropriations Committee to fund programs at appropriate levels if they do not have the authority to spend the money. As we saw last year, the Appropriations Committee can only spend as much money as they are allocated.

The President himself has said, "in order to win the war against cancer we must fund the war against cancer," and 92 Senators and 280 Representatives signed a letter to the President in support of providing the resources necessary to end suffering and death from cancer by 2015.

The President and Members of Congress can't have it both ways -- if they support cancer research and public health programs and are serious about their commitment to end suffering and death from cancer, they must support a Congressional Budget Resolution that increases Function 550 funding over last year's level. If they support a Budget Resolution that cuts Function 550, that means they support cutting cancer research, health programs and quality of life for all Americans who are living with cancer.

ACTION NEEDED

The week of February 27-March 3, we need you to join the millions of Americans touched by cancer to tell your Representative and Senators to reject this misguided budget.

A draft letter for you to send and the means to send it are at the Society's Legislative Action Center. http://capwiz.com/leukemia/index_fra...514001&type=CO

Tell your legislations.....

When the Budget Resolution is considered in the House and Senate, ask them to oppose the President's proposed cuts and stand with you, their constituent, in support of our efforts to increase funding for cancer research and programs. Request that they vote to increase funding for cancer research and programs by supporting every effort to increase funding for Function 550 over last year's level.

?Please call 202-225-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senators and Representative. Click on the link below to find your Senator or Representative or to find their direct phone: numbers.http://capwiz.com/leukemia/index_fra...dbq/officials/

?Once connected to the office, ask to speak with the legislative assistant that handles health care or budget issues.

?Share with them the information and request above regarding their bosses vote on the FY 2007 budget resolution.

?Ask for a commitment from them to support any/every effort and amendment to increase funding for Function 550 and cancer research and programs.

?Make it clear that there is no excuse, rationale, or explanation to justify voting against their constituents and approximately 1.5 million Americans who will be diagnosed with cancer this year and the nearly 10 million Americans living with and beyond cancer.

?Finally, let them know you will be following the budget process closely and ask them to keep you up to date on what actions they take to support increasing funding for cancer research and programs.

Many Thanks for your time and dedication.

Of course! After spending tens of thousands of dollars on med school, working 80 hour weeks for years & then spending several more years to specialize in their chosen field, why should they be compensated?

Great work, Laurel. You've definitely raised the bar & there are many who appreciate what you're doing.

Thanks for all the mad props and donations guys!

Why - 75% of all donations goes directly towards research. An addition, TNT has also helped people dealing with cancer, by educating them about the diseases and also providing a support system for patients and their families.

Lars ? Thank you so much for then generous contribution, you rock! Let me know if you, Sean, and Fred will be in Paso for the car show in May. Leslie and I would love to hangout w/ you. (btw, Leslie and I just got engaged over the weekend. I think that once we saw the true love between Jman and Sleazy we knew that it?s time for us to commit to spending the rest of our lives together.) Thanks boys!

Dissipate ? I?m training for the SD and the WildFlower triathlon. I?ll hit you up on icq shortly. =)

JMan ? Thanks for the bump, you have helped bring this thread alive and helped raised some additional exposure and funds to help support an organization that I truly respect. Also, thank you and Sleazy so much for showing Leslie and I great time in Gimli/Winnepeg. So, when are you guys moving to LA so we can be a happy family? We can all move into Leslie?s house and live commune style

Just wanted to give everyone an upadate.. Last Saturday we all went down to Zuma beach, north of Malibu for an ocean swim. We finally got our wetsuits and we decided to practice a mini-tri. The biking and running was fine, but swimming in the ocean versus the pool SUCKS! A few of us couldn't even get the courage to put our faces in the water.

My event takes place in a bay in San Diego, so I hope it will be better than an ocean swim. Perhaps, JMK will take me out for an ocean swim? Dude, I don't know how you did it..more power to you!

Hi Guys!

Thanks again for the bumps and the donations. However, I have gone way over and beyond my fundraising goal and some of my teammates still have not reached their fundraising goals.

I'm not able to transfer my funds, but if you still wish to donate please visit my friend's page Rolanda. She's a very inspiring woman and I have to say I am so proud of her because she is over 50 years old and you would never guess that. In fact, we have a few women on our team that are 50 plus, but they look like they are in their 30's. Trust me if I put a picture up of them, you guys would say you would hahaha8220;hit ithahaha8221;. j/k

Any how if anyone wants to help out one of my team member's, please feel free to visit her page.

http://www.active.com/donate/tntgla/tntglarmendel1

Thanks guys, you rock!
