Same with Del Mar, Ca. It's gonna be "passive enforcement" which means that everybody will give you dirty looks and point at you and usher their children past you. It'll put public smokers pretty much on par with sex offenders.

Speaking of which... I saw some lady smoking a cigg in her car today with the windows up and an infant child in a carseat riding shotgun. She was hotboxing her own infant. She brought an innocent baby into this world so she could hotbox it. That should be 30 days at least right off the bat. Poor little baby.

I don't smoke either Raffi, but you know, these are very small upscale communities that are doing this. I think they might be sitting on the "we're too good for this disgusting drug habit" high horse. If they're all together for it, sure why not. Besides, the penalty's only gonna be..."hey you, guy, put that out". The problems will start when some east coaster shows up on vacation and fires up a grit in public, then goes on a rampage when 4 tree huggers, and 7 yoga instructors jump all over his case for it.

I wish next they'd put a ban on fuckers who douse themselves in cologne or perfume thinking they smell pretty, meanwhile people like me who have no tolerance for that shit end up with eyes watering and nostrils burning and I have to hold my fucking breath for 20 minutes waiting for your fucking lingering stink to dissipate.

I'm gonna put my cigarette out on the next fucker I walk by that smells like a traveling perfume counter.

I'm sure this will be a big issue and lots of cigar companies would make a stand regarding this "banning."

Actually it is complete BS. First it was public buildings which is perfectly cool. Then forced private business's into a fascist law that goes against the very basics of a free market economy.
Now banning it even in public which is outdoors for christ sake. A place where SUV's and other forms of transportation will omit much higher levels of harmful materials. A place where industrial emissions controls allow a given level of pollution.
Perfectly fine I guess to sit for a bus or wait in traffic while a vehicle idles next to you dousing everything around it with gases that are way more harmful to you than have the chance a small bit of cigarette smoke will Carry in the breeze and come into your personal bubble.

While we are at this can we please ban a few more things. I know several people that will have dire harmful effects that could eventually kill them or at very least injure them.
Bumble bees - several people are deathly allergic.
Peanut eating in public. - friend broke out and got messed up by touching something that had peanut dust on it.
Loud motorcycles - Person I know that is around them often contributes his hearing loss to them, another person I know loud noises set off extreme migraines.
Combustion engines - they pollute after all.
Real sun light - Everywhere should be domed, it causes cancer and a few people are actually allergic to it.
Grasses & all pollen baring plants - again to many suffer.
All not healthy foods - Hey we are talking long term effects here.
Cellphones - They cause people to be rude and eventually someone may kill someone else because of it and well that's two lives wasted.

Fuck it, let em ban it. Just also let them not receive a cent from any taxes it collects. Everything else is hypocritical so why should we stop.

I'm for it, look at the greater picture, after the ban on smoking in restauratns etc here in South Africa, and the yearly price increase of 10% on cigarettes, less and less people smoke, I think it actually works.

I don't smoke myself, but come on, someone smoking in a public place outside is FAR from killing you.

Maybe the lady in the car with rolled up windows was thinking about how harmful her second-hand smoke would be to people outdoors.

I was thinking the same thing... they ban smoking inside and outside... why not just make smoking illegal? I'll tell ya why... those tax dollars that people pay every time they buy a pack. The government is playing both sides against the middle -- raking in the taxes for the sale of tobacco products but banning their use essentially everywhere. That is TOTAL BULLSHIT! If the government wants the people to be smoke-free, they should take their hands out of big tobacco's pockets and give the people a consistent message, for once!

Yep no doubt. The one thing that some smokers of other leaves might see is they are setting rules to regulate a dangerous drug, lol. Some might argue that if the local governments can regulate tobacco smoking so well, why not marijuana smoking? Only in your private residence maybe. And if you dare drive and get pulled over, it's a DUI. Seems theres precedent for just about everything now.

In NY state, a carton of generic cigarettes is over $50.00 due to all of the taxes. Plus they are "fire safe" papers they roll them in, mandated by state law. They basically snuff themselves out if you're not puffing on them, to help prevent fires started by cigarettes.

Pretty crazy stuff all around.

I think its more important that they ban smoking for outside seating at restaurants rather than just outdoors....cause even outside seating, those that dont smoke should be able to enjoy outside seating with smoke blowing in their faces....

Two sections should be ok then no?
Or would you rather take away additional choices from a private business owner and force them into changing instead of allowing competition to dictate who offers what?

For one moment nobody should think it will stop with just smoking either. People will slowly erode at other things that also bother them. I assure you that one day you will wake up and something you do yourself will begin to be taken away.

I am personally waiting for the day that indoor cell phone use is banned. The noise pollution it causes is down right aggravating and I am sure someone can find some junk science that also will show that being around cell phones while in use will cause people some form of bodily harm.
