Failed rebills - why?
Does anybody else have a high rate of rebill customers whose rebills don't go through? If so - why does it happen? All I get from my bank is that "their" bank declined the transaction. But most of those customers have been billed before and their credit card expiration date is way in the future. Any ideas?

Too low of a balance or maxed out, closing an account early, sometimes people find it easier to block a billing rather than cancel... etc

1. Used a debit card and the funds are not present.
2. Over the limit with the credit card. 3. Closed account/moved etc. 4. Changed card due to other fraud, identity theft worries, so on. 5. (already stated) card expired. 6. They used a pre-paid card that no longer has a balance.

I hear you all, but HALF of my daily rebills fail! Is that normal?

Some factors are directly related to the processor(s)
For example, I've noticed on some merchant accounts, that if you let their system handle the rebill for you, it seems to fail less than if you send the rebill as a new transaction each time from your end. That's unfortunately the pattern I've noticed

C'mon, guys! You talk about the biggest bullshit all day long here, but you can't give me some good suggestions on something related to the actual reason why most people are here?

If the card is declined there is nothing you can do initially. However some gateways allow you to do agressive rebilling, meaning if a subscription is not cancelled but declined the card will try to be charged untill the charge go through.

Yes, I have that with VeriSign, however that just results in more failed rebills and then it stops trying after 4 times. I've tried collecting as much information as possible like address, etc., but that doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

50% failed rebills seems quite high. Someone using ccbill should be able to give you stats on failed rebills performance. Have you thought of perhaps contacting the customers and having them switch to a new card?
Or maybe selling your failed rebills to a collections agency? |

We convert about 37 to 43% from trial to full membership. of that, I would say that we have a 50+% of them rebill again, with no problem. It is usually the 3rd rebill where we get the failed to rebill message.

Yeah, 10% failure rate sounds OK and reasonable. Does anybody else using VeriSign for rebills?
