Can you put Google ads on mainstreem 404s?

The terms are too complicated - I cant see anything about it but I wonder if anyone knows for sure off the top of their head?

I beleive you need content on the pages to run the ads.

Why not just make your 404 redirect to a high price ad displaying page on your site.

Sorry - yes thats what i was planning - I wasnt very clear.

So I guess the question is more about the redirection being ok.

redirection is ok.
putting adsense ads on 404 pages isn't.
