Airman Is Shot After Brief Chase ...

This should be good. We saw the video this morning, it really does sound like the deputy asked him to get up, then shoots him as he trys to get on his feet.

A deputy's shooting of a car passenger in Chino was videotaped. The man was wounded while apparently obeying the officer's order to get up.

By Lance Pugmire and Michelle Keller, Times Staff Writers

January 31, 2006

A San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy shot an Air Force security officer late Sunday night after the airman told the deputy that he was in the military and "on your side." A videotape of the incident, which was shot on a residential Chino street about 10:30 p.m., was of poor quality, showing only a silhouette of the deputy and the face of the man who was shot ? illuminated by the deputy's flashlight.

But the tape appears to show the deputy opening fire as the man was trying to comply with the officer's apparent order to stand up.

he's not gonna get anything. his AFSC is 81152 Law Enforcement Specialist. He can't sue the government. What can more than likely happen and I can see it happening is they will court martial him for destruction of government property. if they prove that he contributed to the chase, and or whatever else happened. The military cares not if you are shot. i saw people get court martialed for the dumbest shit. Him especially being trained as a law enforcement officer. same school I went through exactly at Lackland AFB, Texas. they teach you to immediately comply with orders from law enforcement.

The worst part about the video that was handed over to the cops, is that if it does show wrong doing on the part of the officer, it may vanish. things get lost you know.

Here is where I say something that is just not going to be popular.

While it is horrible that a person was shot, I have said this time and time again on this board that when you run from the cops you have broken the rules of the game therefore you can't expect anyone else to play by the rules.

The relative in that video link said that she saw the video tape and her relative was getting out of the car with his hands up when the driver ran and that's when the police fired and he got hit.

Life is about choices, not big ones like they show in the movies where everyone knows it is about life or death, but small ones.

This guy made a choice a small one to get into a car with someone he probably knew was capable of driving 100mph through residential streets and then run from cops when caught doing so.

That choice led to him getting shot and he has to take responsibility for that. I have had friends in the past who have led me down some dark paths, becaue I made the choice to go with them knowing what the possibilities were. I now make choices not to even return their calls.

I don't care if he's military, that means nothing to me. Bad people wear all kinds of different uniforms, including ones with the names of police departments on them.

I am not saying the police were right. They could be 100% wrong. But once again when you run from the police you have to expect that there is the possibility of you ending up dead from a car wreck, gunshot or you yourself killing someone else because of your lack of consideration for the safety of others.

Sorry but I can't share your outrage.

He did comply, but his friend did not during a highly charged situation when guns were drawn.

This guy is no victim. He made a bad choice hanging out with a bad guy and he's suffering the consequences. And who knows what went on before that, he may have actually been cheering his buddy the driver on until they got caught, we will never know.

I usually agree with you and it is an ongoing investigation, but from what i saw this morning it looked as though the officer shot him for doing exactly as he was told.

I agree with eroswebmaster in that it all boils down to the company you keep! If you wanna hang with speed-demons, you go down right with them when the cops get involved in the chase. It isn't fair, but neither is life!

Well I don't have the facts in front of me and I haven't seen the video and I think there's going to be a lot of misinformation out there including from the family of the guy who got shot.

The only thing I have to go on is what you say and what she said. And according to that video link you posted his cousin stated he was complying when the driver ran and that's when the bullets started flying.

If what she is saying is true then that just falls under the category of shit happens.

You have guns drawn and a guy decides to run you don't know what he's going to do so as an officer I think your only option is to protect yourself by killing first before you get killed and then suffer the consequences of a "bad decision" later when going in front of a review board.

Looks lie the FBI is involved. I'm still trying to find the actual video footage, they showed it again this evening.

We'd like to see the video, hope you could post it.

There could be a number of legal issues/consequences in that shooting incident. We'll wait for the updates.

Right, because running from the cops is the focus of this story. It's nice how people COMPLETELY OVERLOOK the actual issue.

Why the fuck do people always try to rationalize blatantly atrocious behavior of some maverick cops? Shit, there could be a news story about a gang of dirty cops who were caught stealing kilos of cocaine from the evidence store room and selling it on the street and keeping the profits. And I bet there would be at least one bad-cop-cheerleader on here who try defending his actions. Some of you just need to realize the fact that not all cops are squeaky clean. The screening process doesn't always weed out all the bad guys, and unfortunately some of them eventually end up wearing a uniform.

It's hard to believe an important story like this just disappeared from the media after a day or two. Has anyone heard of any type of follow up to it in the media?

The deputy then seems to shout, "Get up!" after which Carrion appears to lean forward. "I'm going to get up, all right?" he says. The deputy then fires his gun three or four times from about five feet away.
Now that is just seriously fucked up right there. I hope that deputy gets his ass handed to him for this. Maybe if the deputy had just fired once, I could understand it a little better... maybe. But to shoot multiple times from point blank range...

Cops stealing and selling cocaine is only 10,000 miles away from shooting at someone that could be a threat. Congrats on being a worthless turd with a dumb opinion though.
