QUESTION: How do you pick your sponsor(s)?

With so many different companies and sites available, what are some deciding factors for you when you're selecting a sponsor to promote?

Content? Payouts? Promo material? Support reps? Bonuses? etc...

What inspires you when you pick your sponsors?

Discuss!

So let's see... I'm on GFY.. a place filled (supposedly) with adult webmasters...

I pose a question that is a biz type question and get..

O replies

Hmm.. I thought everyone on GFY had an opinion and wanted to share it. Did I come to the wrong place this afternoon?

Defintely content first and foremost. If it's rehashed shit that everyone has seen, fuck it. I will not even bother with it. Then I suppose pay structure would come next most likely in a tie with reputation (if one exists).

Promo tools are also very important (at least for me).

Start by finding a site with content that matches my traffics interest.

I then check over the tour with a fine tooth comb making sure I think it works (easy navigation, easy to find join pages, herding visitors to join, non cheesy trailers, good join page, valid 2257 page that is compliant, etc).

Next I read over the TOS making sure there is nothing to shady hidden in it or cumbersome rules.

I then check into promo material. They must have a very good selection of down-loadable zip files available and show signs of updating them as well. Just having free hosted galleries and no zips is a turn off immediately.

Then I consider payouts, though this is not as important.

Could give a rats ass about bonuses and I would rather not see them.

Reps are only handy to me if I have questions at the point of signing up, then they must know the answer or be able to get it very fast with very little trouble or time.

I only create niched sites. So the traffic can be pure and convert in low numbers. I surf other sites in the same niche get in contact with them and see what is converting best for them. You'd be suprised but webmasters will be glad to tell ya. Most of them are CCBill sites which I love.

So it goes off that... what sales and what doesn't. Of course free stuff always helps. Which you don't get from ccbill sites

I pick them from here. All top achievers in the field of excellence

Besides that I also look at how much free content is offered to use. On my OWN domain - fhg's are NOT free content. And ofcourse, I have a look at their sites and niches and decide which will work for me.

If I have no sales after 3000-4000 nicely filtered clicks, then that sponsor is a piece of shit and they are most likely shaving. I will never give them another chance after that. All others I'll use until they get to that point. That's the beauty of it, there are so fucking many it's retarded.

I don't care what others say about a company, I go with sponsors based on my gut instinct. Can I trust them?

I haven't been ripped off yet. And as far as I'm aware, shaving has been kept to a minimum.

Having to feel confident about a company is part of the reason why I have never, and will never promote WEG Cash. I don't care what others say, I still get shady vibes from WEG. Not being nasty, just honest. The same thing goes for a lot of other companies...

that's because it's not a drama thread.. that's why there are almost no replies.

1- see what ppl say about the program 2- try and see how it works with your traffic

First I check the tours, a ton of "big" sponsors have the ugliest sites, I have no idea how they make sales at all. I don't have enough traffic to throw it around like that.

Decent quality content (20 second+ mpegs, 800x600 photos) is a must, as are Epassporte payments and a decent pay delay (not a big fan of 3-4 weeks). 120000 FHGs and banners are irrelevant to me, no one clicks banners anymore, and since I don't run a TGP the FHGs are useless.

Curious, if you have never been ripped off and shaving was kept to a minimum. How would you know?

niche and how easy the affiliateprogram is. If I have to look for the fhg's for more than 5 min, I close the window and never return!

thanks for the responses so far, they're definitely interesting

what about programs that use NATS? or similar software - does that counter into your decision making process?

First of all, reputation is not a factor because of so many shills.

Bottom line is SUPPORT.

A company that takes more than 12 hours to respond is immediately and forever blacklisted far as I'm concerned.

Content is a dime a dozen. Creative content is another matter. Also and almost foremost is flooding factor. Some companies start a site, let their friends flood the galleries and newsgroups with affiliate data and then pitch us webmasters to promote their shit.

WTF use is it to promote a pre-flooded market?

No, support, ground floor launching and creative content.

Once a company is so big that it's a street-hold word it's no use wasting my time to promote them.

I usually pick my sponsors, by signing up first, promoting it for a week, and if the sales suck, they go in the shitter.

In other words... I pick my sponsors, by the amount they send in my checks.

Oh yeah, the shaving thing. There are ways to detect shaving. I had a sponsor I had for years. Made piece of shit from them but sent crazy traffic. Then one day one of their staff sent me the data that I was the highest traffic source. Soon as I dropped their asses and turned that data over to the authorities the truth came out.

Finally, conversion as one of you said earlier in the thread. After 4,000 hits, if nothing converts, good-fucking-bye.

NATS is a great script, no doubt, but as far as the "shaveproof" claim, that's total bullshit. I guarantee any russian kid could code a shave feature for a few rubles.
