Why become a rep if you make good money?

Seems more and more people are going to work for companies these days? Any of these guys earning 6 figures? Seems if you are doing well on your own why work full-time for someone else, unless you are just there to learn how a big progam operates and apply it to your own stuff. I would proably take a job at paycom just to look at members emails all day.

you can count the number of people earning 6 figures here on one hand... so obviously they take on a job elsewhere cause they aren't earning shit themselves...

I went to work for WEG because I was interested in learning the paysite side of the biz (I'd done nothing but free sites). I stupidly thought I could still run my freesites at the same time so I figured on a little extra added income and some knowledge. It didn't work that way because I obviously had no time to run my freesites. I made a LOT more running my own sites.

This, as in most businesses, you make more working for yourself.

My own simple answer is, I happen to enjoy doing affiliate support.

I think it helps to have a rep. who is an active webmaster, for obvious reasons.

My affiliate income last month was much more than my rep. income.

This is a good question and a good thread so far.

It seems like this industry is coming out of the day of having a million reps, and moving into people working for themselves.

The only reason I wasn't working for myself is because my brother owns the company, so I've worked hard, and personally sacrificed so that the company could grow and thrive, and in turn I now have a vested interest to see the business do good . Otherwise I never would've worked as an employee with a salary because I would've made a lot more money on my own (about 20% btw 02-04)

It's nice to have a steady paycheck, and healthcare... plus working with the crew at AFF is actually pretty fun. My sites make good money, but to afford a house in Cali, they simply don't bring in enough $$ - so why not do both and work my ass off while I'm still young-ish. ;)

Your salary is only part of your compensation. If as a rep you're making $100,000/year your actual compensation can be quite a bit higher when you include healthcare and other coporate perks.

I'm sure a few of them are making great money considering their base salaries are only a piece of the pie. That extra 10-20% referral a lot of them make on the webmasters they bring in should add up bigtime if they are worth their salt.

Doesn't everybody make at least 100,000 a year?

All my college buddies in their 30s make 100,000 plus.

Sure, if I combine my site income and my full-time-job checks... but certainly not from my just my job. I'm not in my 30's yet tho.... *fingers crossed for the 6 figures*

I still do sales for Phat Servers simply because I enjoy doing it. When I first started I needed the money, fortunately this position has offered me plenty of free time to do my own thing and now most of my income is from "working for myself". If I didn't enjoy working with the Phat Servers guys and our clients I would have quit a long, long time ago. Working with a client or potential client gives me a nice little break from building sites and hitting the upload key.

My personal reasons:
1) Had tried/touched quite a few different areas of adult, after building a paysite with my husband, I was bored.
2) I get to work with some of the smartest, wisest and most successful marketers in the industry. They keep me busy and motivated.
3) Working for a reputable company opens up doors.
4) Working for an established company means you can learn alot from their history since they've probably tried alot of different angles of marketing of what worked and what didn't & you learn the thought process & know-how put into launching of paysites.
5) The job allows me to learn something new everyday in every level - business - personal - financial & human interraction.

I don't really consider it much as my job anymore, it's more part of my life. I get to build my brain daily, put into practice what I know, I get to help those that need it, I get to travel to meet people and see what's available/where things are heading in the industry and as an added bonus, I get very good money for it.

good Reps for good companies can make well over 100k a year. Usually base salary is low... 30-40k a year. Commission is where the money is at. I never made much money working for other people cause I got dicked on commissions and salary. going out on my own has been a lot better for me.

I do both.

You can build both your empires and it works wonders both ways. Here is one example. An afflaite signs up to the program you support. YOu set them up, look at thier site and realize it's site is coverting like mad and it would be perfect for a trade on your personal stuff. WHAM you have his contact info and he's happy me making money with your program and sending your traffic to you and the program

I could go on and on. I have a full staff on hand from desighners to seo guys. I get the best tips from inside the office then any college could offer.

Anyways.................

I know people love to hate on rep's.

I wrote downthe pro's and the con's and belive you me. I love working for WebcamCash.

I don't want to give out ALL the reasons but I talked about it with alot of people and they seem to agree.

I could go on and on. I have a full staff on hand from desighners to seo guys. I get the best tips from inside the office then any college could offer.

Good question.

I will concede that most reps don't make 50k, let alone 100k, but I know a few that make quite a bit of money.

I work partly for ePassporte, part time webmastering.
I like doing support for ePassporte its different every day not the same old stuff building sites, submitting and so on, and its a steady income.

I personally don't understand the rep thing, the reason why I am in this business is the freedom. If I wanted to work for someone else I can get a nice paying mainstream job in a couple of days...
