Wow, sorry I can't really stand up for the kid in this instance.

He wrote some very disturbing stuff and it has to be investigated. Threatening the president *whether I like him or not* is a felony and should be reported.

Not only did he write about wanting to harm the president but others as well.

Now I seroiously doubt the kid will get the chance to hurt the president, but what about kids he goes to school with.

Maybe this little episode and investigation will save someone's life including the kid in the story.

The kid committed a crime, a felony. He has to be investigated for that crime.
I doubt the Secret Service is gonna actually charge him with anything and the kid will get some necessary help.

But when a crime is committed, especially something like this it should be reported. The principal I'm sure was following procedure by notifying the proper authorities, and then the "proper authorities" were following procedure.

And according to the article the agent investigating is the "resident" agent in charge in Providence. So it is not like they sent someone from Washington to do the investigation.

Now, think back a year or so ago about that Indian kid that killed a bunch of classmates, and upon closer investigation was discovered to have a MySpace profile where it was pretty obvious the kid had issues.

umm what crime was commited ? if i write a "FICTIONAL" account of a perfect day , how is that any different than a science fiction writer's fictional account of a space battle.. some of stephen king's characters had quite innapropriate wished of bodily harm to well known people, i dont see them investigating him..

#1 it's not fiction. He did not write a story about a character engaged in a space battle who wished he could inflict harm on the president...he did however write what he felt would be HIS perfect day.

i dont agree , it was a "fantasy" they asked for a fictional wish , infact it reminded me much of a "fictional" piece i wrote in school , and im sure this kids was much nicer, as i had a full page description on disembowling the teacher ( he didnt find it amusing )

It has always been their policy to investigate all reported claims of potential violence against a President, no matter who made them. If they get a report, they MUST investigate it. So they did nothing wrong there.

It's a little far out that the school would notify authorities over this though.
