Summers are actually pretty good. I don't know why people say there is a slowdown. Depends on what you are selling I guess.

I would guess sales should be up in summer. Think about it, guys go out and see girls in short skirts, short t-shirts, girls in bikinis on the beach ect... They get horny and sign up.

I've been in the biz for the last 3 summers and have yet to see a summer slump that everyone talks about.

Last summer was my best ever 3 month period

and this month is shaping up to be another good one

I have to agree with Ted, I've never noticed any dip in sales over the summer.

I think that the great summer depression that every webmaster talks about is just because we work less in the summer...

As a webmaster you can decide when to work or not, in the summer I work less so my sales go down. Don't be a bitch about it, just work like you always do and you won't notice a thing

Hey Blackrose,

Long time no talk. In any case, last summer kicked ass for me, I more than tripled the summer before's income, however this month looks like shit to me, and it's pissing me off. Not sure if it's a summer thing or something else.

I don't know if its so much sumnmer but ya don't think 9/11, US recession, cost of gas going up are not factors? But the world is global so when there is summer surely its winter in some other part of the world :-)

Retailers had a horrible Xmas in 2001.

The summer slowdown is just a myth.

The summer averages out the same as any other season with the exception of the after X-mas rush.

There is some truth to declining US sales from about the end of May to the middle of August.

I'd guess that some of the reasons include college kids going home for the summer, and not having the same privacy at moms house, people getting out from behind the computer and into their yards, bbqs, vacations, etc. Americans are conditioned to get out and go to the lake, beach, etc, during warm weather, and porn's not the only thing that sees a little slowdown -- bars also see it, since people tend to buy a 12 pack to take along instead of sitting at the bar drinking.

Biggest thing to keep in mind is that the US isn't the only market -- now would be the time to start tweaking out your IP sorting if you use it, making sure you are optimizing your payment options for non US surfers, shifting a bit of your traffic to partnership programs instead of pay per join, so you keep that recurring income moving into the bank if sales go soft, etc.

the summer slowdown is a myth made up by whiners who cant handle the fact that their traffic and or sponsors suck balls.

basically, a load of shit IMO. after 6 summers in this biz, i've seen nothing but gradual, continuous growth - winter/spring/summer/fall.

i never had a significant drop in summer exept when i go in vacation and don't work on my sites....
most drops occur when a sponsor is overadvertised or if you don't work enough...

If your traffic is up how can it be a summer slow down? As a summer slow down I assume you mean people are outside more, on vacation etc. That would mean they are not logging on at all and your traffic would slow down with your sales, or are you saying that due to summer tons of people are all of a sudden becoming freeloaders and will refuse to sign up.

The only thing I can think of about the summer is that more teenage kids out of school might be surfing the TGP's more and make your ratio a bit worse, but as far as I know.. no schools are out!
