that's hard to tell,it depends on what you do. Personally I found 5mbit kind of little if you work on movie galleries. When your galleries end up on archive you'll notice through time that the bandwidth consumption will be up even when you don't work ;)

if you're really serious about movie galleries I think you should get a 30 mb/s at least

Or you could just get a straight per gig plan and not worry about it.

You definetly don't want to go per gig on movie galleries.
here is a rough statistic based on our movie galleries I post. 160,000 uniques 5 x 1 meg movie clips Average 12/Mbps - day It's not exact but should give you a rough idea. If your serious about movie posting hit me up and I can get you a great deal on 5/Mbps. |

Annael - np - although it entirely depends on how you setup - and your drive config and what type of webserver your running.
also important are your bandwidth costs - as if this is a free gallery or even if its pay - then your bottom line @ 10mbps makes a big difference. if you have any questions regarding the technical details - contact me and I will put you in touch with the right answers.

Conservative approach says buy 1 MBps and see what happens. Aggresive says buy 10 MBps and see what happens.
I would buy a dedicated server with 1 MBps at the best price I could find, and see what happens. I know I am in the hosting biz, but a lot of people buy more than they need. Dont do that to yourself if you are just starting out. If 1 MBps is $100 and and 10 Mbps is $800 or $80/Mbps, the difference is not that big. You might not push as much traffic as you expected and your money would go to waste. Just a word from the wise, dont stick yourself with a big hosting contract that you dont need, especially if you are new to this. I do hosting for a living and I don't see any benefit in buying a lot to save a little. Our most popular package is 1 MBps and very few customers push 10 MBps in their first month. Be conservative and you will come out on top. Besides that, you can always upgrade.

My host actually host movies up to 1Mb. Most important thing is getting a good price for bandwidth. You should not start out with 10mb/s unless your getting a really good deal and know what your doing to get that much traffic.
Like some other people said, it's a good idea to start small and upgrade as traffic goes.

well, if you can find a place that charges a nice Mbps rate and take it from there. Like, $120 per Mbps.
At the moment my average is something like 12Mbps over the past 30 days. When I get my lazy ass back to submitting every day, I expect it to be around 15Mbps. |

Pimpshot: IsnŽt there a big difference in billing pr 95percintile, and Average MBPS? I just looked at your page and like the prices, but im affraid to use 95 percintile? What will happen if i send a movie gallery to fx. The Hun and worldsex and it gets hammered for 2 days with 25mbps, then the rest of the month iŽll use 2mbps...will i then end up with a big bill for almost no usage??

Fuck 95th percentile. Get a line and that's what the box uses. No surprises, no huge bills. If you need more pipe, you upgrade.
95th percentile for gallery posting is an ass raping waiting to happen. |

Playa, yeah i know the top 5% is cutoff but still going from 20mbps to 19mbps for using 25mbps for 2 days of a month is kinda crazy? i know i wouldnŽt be this dramatically in the real world..but I think i could easely be paying for 5-10mbps too much?

You definitely want to get billed on the avg. out put.
95 % will cost you big if your avg isn't consistant. Pay for what you use and no problems. If you could just find a good host who doesn't bs on your billing. ;-))
